Winery Chelti Complex was founded in 2001, which is located in Kakheti region, village of Shilda, Kvareli district. From the very beginning, the company’s goal was to produce only the premium quality products. Therefore the company began to plant own vineyards which would have given the possibility to control the quality of grapes.

Wine yard №1 is a family-type tourist destination that unites a cellar, a house and a yard of three generations. Our goal is to show the guests a traditional Kakhetian family, to acquaint with family life, feast, master of ceremonies - Tamada, wine, folklore and agro directions. “Feel at home” - is our motto. During the visit, it is possible to view the cellar of three generations, pour out wine from Qvevri and tasting it. Distillation - making chacha, rtveli - Grape harvesting, making churchkhela, baking bread, cooking master classeses. The object has a two-storey house and a very beautiful green garden. There are ten types of vine varieties growing in the area. The Wine Yard # 1 is located 160 kilometers away from Tbilisi, at the borderline of Georgia and Daghestan (Russian Federation) in Kvareli district, village Akhalsofeli (former Gavazi), and 16 kilometers away from Kvareli itself.

Although this is a very interesting complex, the highlight for me was the ancient wine cellar with its large vats and the grape trampling troughs. Great views of the valley and buildings dating back to the 4th century. Be prepared for a steep walk, unless you take the bus.

Try to imagine a tunnel 7.7 Kilometers in length carved into the rock, filled with the best aging wines of Winery Khareba. You will never before have seen such a phenomenon... The touristic complex offers the opportunity of tasting more than 30 varieties of Winery Khareba's best wines and participation in the cultural activities, such as: Chacha distillation process, Georgian bread baking, Chuchkhela making, grilling meat (Georgian barbeque), harvesting and pressing grapes in Satsnakheli.
A tunnel winery inside the mountain. At the entrance musicians traditionally dressed will welcome you with a Georgian song. Then you will be given a blanket as the temperature inside the tunnel is about 16 degrees. A collection of old wines in the shelve cellars on the walls. In a separate route in the tunnel there are wells in the floor for wine maturity, also used as store places and tables for wine tasting. Outside a view to a large area vineyard at the boundaries of the winery's area. A route inside the nature and areas of vineyards for reaching there. This is the experience. This is the difference from other wineries.

I was familiar with one of their wines beforehand (and it's my favorite wine), so I was really looking forward to seeing where the magic happens and tasting more wines. And I was not disappointed! Our tour guide Mari and tasting guide Natya were great! They explained everything in (pretty decent) English, and answered all our questions. I really enjoyed all the wines in the tasting and can't wait to go back! Thank you!
