If your plans to visit the Loire Valley failed to materialise and you are in Poland you can still visit a medieval chateau located on an island in the middle of a lake. Oporow is a small late medieval castle strategically located near the place where two Polish highways A1 and A2 meet so regardless of whether you are crossing Poland north-south or east-west it takes less than 25 kilometres to get here.
The castle was originally built in the mid-15th century and it was a living castle until the end of the Second World War when it was almost immediately made into a museum. The castle is quite small - the living quarters for servants are nearby, you can rent a room there - and the collection does not consist of masterpieces but it successfully gives the visitor an impression what life in a small castle off the main route could have been like in the past. A perfect place if you need a rest during your trip. You can see the castle and then get lost in the surrounding park.
PS The address above is wrong - the Castle is located in the village called Oporow some 20 km to the east of Kutno.

Former town-hall transformed into a local history museum offers and overview of major events in the not-too-eventful history of the town. Apart from the obligatory prehistoric pottery, Roman military souvenirs such as shield-holders, and views of the town from the not-so-glorious past there is usually a temporary exhibition (Art Deco in August 2017), and a far more interesting collection of sculptures made by folk-artists from the region hidden in the basement. Inasmuch as the history of Kutno is interesting only for the toughest of the tough, the folk sculptures have a lot of unexpected charm.

Byłem kilka razy na przysadkach pociągowych. W sumie ładny park ale jakoś mnie nie porwał i trochę dziwię się, że został umieszczony ale warto sobie odpocząć w przerwach podróży.
