Emu Ridge Gallery is the famous Fossil/Gemstone Museum and gift shop in the township of Kuranda, Far North Queensland; well known for displaying a life-size, museum quality Allosaurus skeleton. It all began as a collaboration between two enthusiastic and passionate gemstone fossickers, Chris Maaten and Shane Hebbard. Chris and Shane spent many decades fossicking, cutting and polishing the crystals and gems found and soon turned their hobby into a business, officially commencing in July, 2001. Proudly celebrating 18 years of being open as of the 1st of July 2019, Chris and Shane continue to source natural authentic Gems, Crystals, Minerals and Fossils from likeminded fossickers and collectors from around the world with Australia being the main source. Our gift shop consists of a wide range of Australian gemstone jewellery, locally sourced gems, crystals and fossils. Chris and Shane hope to share their passion with their free Gemstone and Fossil Museum that runs underneath the shop.
On more than a few occasions I've visited this gallery and i'm always happy with the outcome.Chris and Jasmine are great hosts. The opals are vast and well priced.Clean and neat displays with bright lighting.I was pleasantly surprised with the discounts I received on my opals and they also came with their own cellophane display boxes. All in all a great time I had and thanks again Chris for the information you gave me about the lighting for my own display cabinet at home.See you all next time I'm in Kuranda. We are a small specialty chocolate and gift shop in the beautiful village of Kuranda. Established in 2018, we carry a wide variety of Queensland produced chocolates and locally made giftware. All our stock is sourced from Australian companies and we have a strong emphasis on local and Queensland producers. We have a local craftsman making stunning timber tableware from Kuranda rainforest wood. Another local makes handy carry bags in a range of sizes and styles and we have beautiful skin care products and earrings from other local crafters.

Welcome to Kuranda Candy Kitchen the home of fine handmade rock confectionery. Located in the Kuranda Village on the Cairns Hinterland our beautiful candy store can be found by the enticing smells wafting down the streets from the store. We proudly make all our products by hand and display live candy making demonstrations most days.
We decided to walk down to the train station instead of taking the bus - and so glad we did! We found this little treasure trove which provided a delicious collection of sweets for our relaxing train ride back to Cairns. Absolutely delicious. Can I say delicious just one more time... I saw on the window that they can custom make sweets for you for special events.... good to know!

This trip provided a very informative tour showing all stages of the butterflies life span. An opportunity to see a variety of butterflies and learn plenty. Wear bright colours or colours that can be picked in UV light and you might find yourself lucky enough to be mistaken as a flower and have some butterflies land on you.

Are you interested in real natural Australian Opal? Come in and learn all about Australia’s national gemstone from the miners themselves. They take rough opal, directly from the mines and turn them into exquisite opal jewellery, some set in silver and others set in gold. Unset opals are available if you would prefer to make your own piece of jewellery. Gold nuggets from the local goldfield too.
My husband and I were in search of a special gift and loved the selection, knowledge, and low-pressure approach in this shop. It was also meaningful to us that the owner harvests the opals himself from the mine, and had interesting information to share about the experience including opals embedded in rock. We learned a lot and purchased a beautiful gift, made all the more special with the sales experience and knowledge gained along the way.

Very nicely presented, a huge array of luxury naturally flavoured chewy sweets, Espresso my favorite). Enjoyed speaking to the lady who runs shop, her husband actually makes the sweets there and if you time it right you can watch the making process. We stayed at the Ramada in Port Douglas and were please to find they had a bag of their sweets as a welcome gift in each room. A real gem.
