The cultural hub of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is visually defined by the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, which, at 88 stories high, are the tallest twin buildings in the world and a vision of modern architecture. On the flip side, the Sri Mahamariamman is the oldest Hindu temple in Malaysia, its façade a colorful totem pole of iconography. Shopping at the Central Market is a joyful experience that involves haggling, handicrafts, and happiness.

Part of my bias is likely due to the rain. It was a good tour, but obviously some of the out door stuff was a bit problematic. So be careful of this during the rainy season. Lunch was delicious and the massage was great, as was out tour guide. I’d recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for a day away from Singapore.

Firstly, this is not your typical 'Jalan Alor' street food market! :-) Kuala Lumpur night markets are great if you’re looking to experience the local lifestyle during your holiday in the Malaysian capital. Each day of the week, a small section of residential neighbourhoods throughout the city are closed off to traffic from 18:00 onwards to make way for stalls selling fresh produce, clothing, accessories and household items, creating oases of local culture and cuisine. Locally called pasar malam, these traditional street markets are an incredibly prominent feature in the Malaysian shopping experience, where locals go to buy a variety of goods in the evening. Visitors can also enjoy authentic local dishes and street snacks at cheap prices, from nasi lemak, burgers and noodles to Malay kuih (cakes), deep-fried bananas and fresh juices.
Inclusions: Train tickets for the whole tour

Thank you to Din and all of the people at Gahara for a truly amazing experience! Not only did my son and I get to make traditional batik, but we also got to see many museums, experience local food (which is so delicious and can only be had in Kelantan!), and explored local art. Having Din with us was game-changing as he not only served as a translator, but an amazing guide and friend. If we had not been there with him, we would have missed out on so much of the experience. Staying in the former family home of the founder of Gahara was amazing. We were surrounded by beautiful textiles and the energy of this thriving textile house. It was fun to visit other batik houses here, and we even met a very old weaver, working her loom, making a beautiful songket. This was a much needed respite from lockdown in KL, and since I am a textile lover, it was the perfect antidote! AND....I ate the best food here in Kelantan that I have had in Malaysia, thanks to Din and his friends. Highly recommend this tour. It is a life-changer!
