We booked for the Swan Lake ballet on 25 December 2019, with travel date on 24 May 2020, through U Visit Russia. . Due to the Covit19 pandemic we were unable to visit Russia nor attend the ballet. Two tickets were purchased for US$465.50. U Visit Russia was advised of not being able to attend and agreed to pay a full refund but there would be a delay due to the number of cancellations. After some time no refund was forthcoming and U Visit Russia was again contacted by email and we were advised that due to the volume of cancellations the refund would be credited to our credit card within 9 weeks. Nothing and again they were contacted by email but no response was ever received. No refund was ever received. Nothing!! The lesson is to beware of ever dealing with this company.
Private tour to the military port city in Russia located near St. Petersburg, which became open to visitors only in 1996 Kronstadt is an unusual suburb of St. Petersburg. Located on the island of Kotlin in the Gulf of Finland, the city throughout its history served as the sea shield of St. Petersburg and the capital of the Baltic Fleet of Russia. It was here that the world’s first icebreaker was built. Kronstadt is simply fascinating. Subtle atmosphere of the port city, strict canal lines, the magnificent Naval Cathedral. Most recently, Kronstadt could be reached only with a special pass, today it is one of the most beautiful historical districts of St. Petersburg, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Kronshtadt has a lot in common with St. Petersburg: the Admiralty, the Summer Garden, the Gostiny Dvor, the Blue and Green bridges, and even its own cannon that gives a mid-day shot.

If you don’t have much time in Saint-Petersburg but you want to see as much as possible, this tour is exactly for you. Visit three biggest attrations: Peterhof, Oranienbaum and Kronshtadt. Peterhof was a summer residence of Peter the Great with beautiful palaces and famous of its fountains. Oranienbaum was a residence of Catherine the Great. There you will enjoy her unique Chinese palace, the real jewel of the 18 century which hasn’t been destroyed during WWII. Head to Kronstadt, the naval fortress located on the island surrounded by forts. Kronstadt was a military town closed for non-residents until 1996. The town of Kronstadt is situated on the small island of Kotlin in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland, 48 km west of Saint Petersburg. It was founded by Peter the Great in 1704 as a maritime fortress and naval base. The name "Kronstadt" in German means "Crown City". We will start exploring the place with the city-tour, making stops nearby the Vladimir Cathedral , the Italian Palace and the Peter’s Dry Dock construction. Then we will visit the Naval Cathedral of Saint Nicholas built in 1903–1913 as the main church of the Russian Navy and dedicated to all fallen seamen. The cathedral was reconstructed and reconsecrated on 30 May 2013, by patriarch Kirill. The Kronstadt Sea Fortress used to be considered the most fortified port in the world. Formerly, there were 42 such forts, situated in line between the southern and northern shores of the Gulf of Finland. We will reach one of them during our boat –tour.

This tour will plunge you into the history of the Baltic fleet, building of the dam and the city. From the date of its foundation, the port city of Kronshtadt is playing a key role in Russian history. It was erected on the islands of the Gulf of Finland as a vanguard for St. Petersburg defense. There is an interesting fact – the city was closed before and only in 1996 Russian citizens and foreigners got the opportunity to visit this site. During the excursion you will see a lot of interesting historic buildings and constructions such as Petrovski dock, depth gauge, Yakornaya square, The Naval cathedral of Saint Nicholas, monuments of Peter the Great and Russian naval commanders. Don’t forget to call your attention to the iron pavement in the city center! Optionally you can make a fascinating boat tour with visiting one of the forts. I would 100% recommend a 48 hr tour of St. Petersburg with NP Tours. Our guides, Olga & Evgeniy were fantastic – we were picked up at the cruise terminal and despite the traffic, we managed to get to all our destinations and had enough time to visit & explore each attraction. We visited Peterhof Lower Park & Upper Gardens and saw the Samson Fountain ‘show’ which is a must-see. We had lunch on a boat tour on the river & canals of St. Petersburg and then spent the afternoon visiting The Church of our Savior on the Spilled Blood and the Peter & Paul cathedral; both have great historical significance and are beautifully decorated inside & out. Former members of the Royal Family are buried at the latter – Olga is extremely knowledgeable on the former monarchy and gave us a great insight into their past. She speaks fluent English and is very informative on all subjects related to the sights we visited, inclusive of general history regarding the city’s past. We visited the Pushkin (formerly Tsarskoye Selo) and Catherine's Palace – beat the large groups and crowds with our private tour! The park and Palace interiors are stunning, especially the ‘Amber Room’ which was a highlight – very unique! We took a walking tour on Nevsky Prospect & visited St. Isaac's Cathedral before taking a tour of the Hermitage Museum and State Rooms of the Winter Palace. The extensive art collection was amazing and I would most definitely visit again! Many thanks to Olga & Evgeniy for such a wonderful experience, I would suggest anyone visiting St. Petersburg take this tour!
