One of the oldest mosques in Malaysia; parking could be congested during peak prayer times and festive seasons; a chosen place for newlyweds photography; and a very serenity place for Muslims to pray.

This tower is underrated. The outlook of the tower isn't in its glory days. However, the tower still gives you the aerial view of the city (Alor Setar). This is the only tower, that when I visited at almost sunset, there is no one around. I get the whole sunset view to myself. For the locals here the tower may be boring, but for visitors the tower is the place to check out the river, the old buildings and the landscape (including the hills). There is a fee to enter. You can go to the viewing area level or to the restaurant. Around the viewing area level (open air), there are few telescopes if there is no one around you can use it to your own and have a close up view of almost everything. The tower unfortunately has no explanation on the landmarks of the city. There are toilets at the viewing level. Best time to go is in the late evening when it is windy, not hot and you can stay till sunset.

Went back to Malaysia for visit with my 3 UK born children and husband, was taken to visit paddy field last week - very impressed! Just never expect in Alor star there is a museum like this, the beautiful drawing give a good insight of kampung Malaysia feel which I was totally in love with. The entry is very cheap, I wish they charge more so the maintenance can be keep going.

New renovated Pekan Rabu. Its a place to buy traditional gifts & craft. Its a good place to get local snacks, clothing and souvenirs. If you want to get the local foods go up to the top floor either by stairs or lift. If you want to buy cloth and traditional material you can get it from the lower ground until the second floor. There's also a food-court on the ground floor to fill up your tummy with local food. The price of goods there is quite reasonable.
