We were on our way back from Kansai Airport to Namba when we stopped at Kishiwada to see the castle there. We couldn't find any English Review of the castle and the castle did not rank highly on tourist attraction. We had some extra time so we decided to stop by.
The Castle is about 7 mins easy walk from the Kishiwada station. The castle grounds are beautiful and the simple fact that this isn't a popular tourist attraction meant you had ample space and time to take really lovely pictures. There are very lovely cherry blossoms surrounding the castle and the quietness of the castle grounds was surreal.
We spent more time than we expected there simply because it was so lovely. We were quite hesitant to leave (but for the time slipping by). We highly recommend this especially if you are a photographer.

This shrine is right off the back of Kishiwada Castle. There are several building and statues and lovely trees. The gates are left open and you can wander around after hours. There is a turtle Fountain with laddles to drink water. The yearly festival is held here.

Whenever we are home visiting Osaka, we always make it a point to take the kids out to Tombo Ike Park. Like most public places in Japan, the park is well kept and people generally respect the area. You typically dont see trash laying all over the place like many of the parks in the states. There a tons of fun slides and things for the kids to play on, many of which with features you would never find in America, due to our culture of sueing over every injury. With a little bit of common sense and parental supervision, kids will have the best time of their lives... for free. :) Not sure why anyone just traveling through Japan would stop here, but if you ever get a chance to have a picnic while in Kishiwada, this is the place to do it.

The festival floats and drum floats used as an offering in festivals are called danjiri in western Japan, and "Danjiri Matsuri" is a collective term for festivals that use them. Particularly famous is the Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri, in which danjiri, some weighing up to 4 tons, are decorated with carvings, paper lanterns, and banners and vigorously hauled through the streets. It is known as a boisterous festival, but the intensity and flamboyance captivate tourists. In the old days, it was held during the eighth month of the traditional Japanese calendar, but since 2006, it has been held on the Saturday and Sunday before Respect for the Aged Day (the third Monday in September).
We enjoyed it very much! Came a bite late (21:00) so it was about to end, but we recommend it anyway. If you come earlier you can see them running really fast with the wooden ships but when we came it was more children and teenagers carrying so the pace was much slower

Sometime prior to the Pacific War, Terada Rikichi of the powerful Terada Conglomeration, built this traditional house and garden out of the finest materials over a period of a decade.

Really enjoyed walking through this street, which has been nicely preserved with some stunning architecture to view. Also, good amount of information in both Japanese and English as you walk along. Would definitely recommend.
