Our mission is to preserve the past of Canada South for the education and interpretation of present and future generations. Sitting on 100 Acres, our 25000 square foot Transportation Museum showcases modes of transportation from early wooden wheel wagons all the way to the present day Viper! Our Heritage Village is a journey back in time to 15 buildings that have been placed here from all over Essex County. Our tour guides would be happy to take you back in time to learn the treasured history of our area. Our Village is open Tuesday Through Sunday May 01 - October 31st, and our Museum is open year round for tours.
We were planning a multi-generational day out (parents, grandparents and child (12 yrs old) and found saw this museum on Trip Advisor. Having grown-up in Tecumseh, I was surprised to learn about this gem of a place. We decided to take a tour of both the transportation museum and the heritage village and were so glad we did. Although we all enjoyed the museum, it was particularly fun for my parents to see cars from their youth and my daughter loved the 1927 caravan. It was enlightening to see all the local links to this industry - well beyond what I had known growing up in this automotive area. The museum guide was very knowledgeable and answered the numerous questions we had. Once the tour was done, we went back around to read the various placards and look at our favourites again before going to the Hertiage Village outside. The Village is small - approx. 15 buildings but they are in good condition and well presented so you feel you have stepped back in time. We particularly enjoyed the schoolhouse and the Jack Miner house. The Village is a good walk from the museum and might be a bit of a challenge for the elderly or those with mobility issues. The steps into buildings were also a bit difficult for my father who is in his late 80s. However, we all thoroughly enjoyed the visit. We spent 2hrs and easily could have spent 3.
