What to do and see in Kilkenny, Province of Leinster: The Best Free Things to do

July 19, 2021 Diedre Savory

Kilkenny is over 400 years old, but it sure doesn’t show its age. Yes, it's an awe-inspiring throng of medieval cathedrals, castles, abbeys and other massive stone buildings, but Kilkenny loves to party. An endless stream of arts festivals celebrating theater, comedy, bluegrass and dance is constantly pumping the city with new life, toe-tapping energy and international flavor.

Fantastic food in a gorgeous pub. The staff were amazing and couldn’t be more helpful. Our hostess was friendly and fun. A real people person. Bar staff were lovely too. All three ladies made our stay a welcome one. Gorgeous flavour in the hot beef sandwich. We will definitely be back. Pint of Smithwicks went down a treat too. Just class full stop. Next time we come and visit KIlkenny we will definitely come back.

Thanks to all at jerpoint glass for opening up especially on Sunday for an amusing afternoon. We watched the master at work who produced a beautiful vase and then we got to blow some glass ourselves with various degrees of success! Good fun. Their shop shows the incredible talent the whole family have from wood turning to craft work. Really interesting place and fantastic to see such small Irish company doing so well.

I Went to Malzards Pub with Trafalgar as part of group outing. Fred and his family were absolutely amazing and so welcoming and it was a night full of laughs and fun! Best pub, with great people and amazing live music by the local talent. Fred taught us the basics of hurling and even let us get behind the bar. This is a wonderful family run Pub that is upto the 5th generation of Fred’s family. Its off the beaten path if you want to get away from the busy main cities and an absolute must if you are in Ireland!! It will be a night that will always be remembered!

Bought online a beautiful large cast Iron Irish Harp plaque. Harry couldn't be more helpful. Having visited a couple of years prior and bought a few bits, we missed our visit this year due to Covid as we live in the UK. The postage and packing was very reasonable and it arrived only a week later with amazing packaging. I will be studying the online items for delivery a little more closely now. I wonder what my next purchase will be?
