Such an amazing experience. The exterior structure of Kandariya Mahadev is based on a main tower (shikhara), the temple's highest point, which symbolizes Mount Kailash, Shiva's Himalayan mountain home. This main tower is surrounded by 84 smaller spires (urushringas). The whole building is made of sandstone, with a granite foundation.

We visited Khajurao a couple of days ago and I was simply blown away by the beauty of the 1000 to 800 year stone temples. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is meticulously maintained by the Archeological Survey of India. The exterior and interior carvings are simply stunning and as beautiful as described in guide books. We had a very knowledgeable guide named Sanjay Khare. +919425143587. I'd reccomend a stop over at this amazing place if you have time on an India trip.

The Khajuraho Group of Monuments is a group of Hindu temples in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, India, about 175 km. southeast of Jhansi, 453 km.train distance from Varanasi. They are one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India. The temples are famous for their nagara-style architectural symbolism and their erotic sculptures. Most Khajuraho temples were built between 950 and 1050 by the Chandela dynasty. Historical records note that the Khajuraho temple site had 85 temples by the 12th century, spread over 20 square kilometers Of these, only about 25 temples have survived, spread over 6 sq. km. Of the various surviving temples, the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is decorated with a profusion of sculptures with intricate details, symbolism and expressiveness of ancient Indian art. The Khajuraho group of temples were built together but were dedicated to two religions, Hinduism and Jainism, suggesting a tradition of acceptance and respect for diverse religious views among Hindus and Jains in the region. The temple architectures were amazing, with remarkable details. They are very beautiful, worth a visit.

The Adinath temple is a Jain temple located amongst the Eastern Group of Jain temples at Khajuraho. It is dedicated to Adinath, a Jain Tithankara. We visited this temple during our recent trip to Khajuraho. The temple has a black basalt statue of Lord Adinath. The design of the Adinath temple is similar to that of the Vamana temple with a few minor differences. With the evolved sculptural style of the Adinath temple it suggests that it was constructed after the Vamana temple. Only the vestibule and the sanctum of the temple survive as on date. The exterior walls of the temple have three bands of sculptures featuring women, couples, and mythical lion-like creatures. In spite of the Jain affiliation, the external walls also feature carvings of the Hindu deities. The niches feature sculptures of the Jain Yakshinis: Ambika, Chakreshvari, and Padmavati. THE TEMPLE IS A MUST VISIT FOR ANYONE VISITING THE JAIN CLUSTER OF KHAJURAHO TEMPLES.
