Southeast Exposure Ketchikan - Kayaking, Zipline & Zodiac Boat Tours. Welcome to Southeast Exposure. We started taking Kayaking Tours in 1986 from our home in downtown Ketchikan. Kayaks soon took over the yard. In 2005 we moved our operation north to beautiful Clover Pass, three miles from the end of the road. The protected waters here are dotted with evergreen islands. To realize our dream of having a zipline course and move the kayak tours away from the floatplanes, large boats, wind and the noise of the waters of downtown, we purchased an estate and started to renovate and add. We built a zipline course with 8 lines in the big cedars and installed transition elements as well as a zipline that zooms down to an ocean platform. We also installed an optional climbing wall with stairs to climb to the top platform. We support our Tatoosh Islands and Misty Fiords kayak tours with three vessels: Two 24’ Rigid Hulled inflatables (RIBs) and a 24’ landing craft. Our Zodiac Boatman Tour features three custom built 14’ rigid hulled boats. The kayak fleet would never fit anywhere in our two previous locations. What will you see out here in Clover Pass? Islands ringed by protected waters Seals, sea lions, eagles, intertidal life, jumping salmon, deer and possibly orcas on the hunt and transiting humpback whales.

Backcountry Jeep & Canoe Safari Fill your senses with adventure and excitement as you take control of a 4-wheel drive Jeep Wrangler® and wind your way through the rugged back roads of Revillagigedo Island. Then grab a paddle and join your companions for an authentic Alaskan canoe experience. For the Jeep® portion of this safari adventure, you'll be paired with up to 4 traveling companions (there will be plenty of opportunities to change drivers for those who want to get behind the wheel!). While you traverse the mountain roads of the Tongass National Forest, your guide will provide you with interesting and informative commentary by means of two-way radio. You'll be fascinated by the area's natural history as you pass through old growth and new growth forests. Stop for fantastic views and excellent photo opportunities along the way. The Jeep® portion of your tour concludes with your arrival at Lake Harriet Hunt. Here, you'll experience a unique ecosystem from the vantage point of a 37-foot, 20 passenger, Alaska Native style canoe; these traditional Alaskan canoes are fast, stable, and easy to maneuver. Once on the other side of the lake, your expert safari guide will lead you to a camp on shore where an Alaskan snack awaits. From the camp, your guide will interpret the features of a temperate rainforest on an optional nature walk through old-growth forest. Your excursion concludes with a scenic motorcoach drive back to the pier. Don't forget to bring your camera and a driver's license! Rainforest Canoe & Nature Trail The adventure begins with a scenic motorcoach tour to a secluded mountain lake nestled within the Tongass, the nation's largest national forest. Board authentic Alaska Native style canoes; these 37-foot, 20 passenger, traditional Alaskan canoes are fast, stable, and easy to maneuver. Paddle through lush rainforest under the direction of an experienced guide while scanning the shore for wildlife and learning about the unique natural and cultural history of the Ketchikan area. Stop ashore for an Alaskan-style snack. A knowledgeable guide will lead a short nature walk highlighting the flora and fauna of the rainforest, including a carnivorous plant, the Sundew, which uses tentacles with an adhesive "dew" to ensnare small insects. Finally, paddle back to the canoe dock to reboard your motorcoach, returning to the cruise ship pier. Totem Bight State Historical Park & Rainforest Canoe Adventure Alaska Native art and traditions are highlighted in this perfect combination of history and adventure. You will travel 10 miles north of Ketchikan to visit the Totem Bight State Historical Park, an 11-acre park featuring ancient totem poles set in a lush rainforest, before heading to Lake Harriet Hunt for your experience in Native-style canoes on a pristine mountain lake. You'll explore all the historical artifacts that have been restored and re-carved, the rocky coastline along the Tongass Narrows, and the colorful community house called the Clan House before you learn how the natives traveled the long distances of the southeast Alaska waterways in large carved canoes. At Lake Harriet Hunt, you'll board your easy-to-paddle, 15-passenger traditional Alaskan canoe, much like the Alaska Natives used to travel the coastal waterways. Your safari guide will lead you to a camp on shore, where your cook will be preparing chowder, smoked salmon, rolls, and wild berry jam for you. From the camp, your guide will interpret the features of a temperate rainforest on an optional nature walk through old-growth forest. Rainforest Island Adventure A motorized rigid inflatable Seahawk provides a short, but exciting cruise along the coast of Clover Passage to a remote island in the Tongass National Forest. Whales, Stellar sea lions, harbor seals, porpoise, bald eagles and migrating seabirds may be spotted on this route. Join an experienced Alaskan trail guide for a walk through natural, unspoiled beauty of this coastal rainforest. The trail takes you through a beautiful old growth forest, by way of a secluded beach. This mostly boardwalk path is about one-mile in length and well maintained. Follow your knowledgeable guide through this ancient forest and learn about botanic species native to this region, such as the Western red and yellow cedars which Alaska native cultures have depended on for spiritual enrichment, shelter and transportation, and how the Sitka spruce was instrumental in the construction of Howard Hughes' famous "Spruce Goose" and other early vintage fighter planes. After hiking this gently sloped historic trail, gather by the campfire to enjoy an Alaskan-style snack. Take some time to explore the natural beauty around you before reboarding the Seahawk for the return trip to Knudson Cove. Bring your camera and binoculars! Rainforest High-Tech Family Challenge Enjoy a 30-minute scenic cruise through Clover Passage towards your island adventure. During your cruise, you are likely to view marine life including whales, sea lions, seals, porpoise as well as bald eagles. Then, discover a remote island in Tongass National Forest with "Geocaching," a high-tech, GPS treasure hunt. Every family will receive a GPS and a list of coordinates that will lead you to secret clues hidden around the island. Gather the clues. Decipher their meaning. Solve the puzzle. It's a family versus family adventure that takes wits, will, and just a little bit of luck. Be the first family to solve the puzzle and you win! Once your family has found its treasure, you will gather around a campfire and enjoy an Alaskan-style snack before heading back to the marina to board your motorcoach to return to the pier. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture this wonderful experience with your family. Rainforest High-Tech Treasure Hunt Enjoy a narrated transfer by motorcoach to Knudson Cove where you will board a motorized rigid hull inflatable Seahawk for an exciting 30-minute cruise along Clover Passage where whales, sea lions, seals, porpoise, bald eagles and migrating seabirds may be spotted. Join a certified Alaska interpreter/guide, on a secluded beach in the Tongass National Forest, where you will be divided into small groups and given an orientation on Geocaching. Each group will be provided with a Global Positioning System (GPS) device already preloaded with the coordinates that they will need to find their caches. Each group will be given a separate coordinate to start the hunt and will be search for their treasure on the beach and along a well maintained boardwalk trail within a beautiful old growth rainforest. Each cache discovered will reveal coordinates for the next cache until the ultimate destination cache is found. Your guide will travel amongst the groups assisting as needed and providing interesting information about the island's native botanical species and historical information about the indigenous people and their culture. Once your group has found its treasure you will gather around a campfire to learn about the shoreline marine life and enjoy an Alaskan style snack. Then reboard your Seahawk vessel for a return cruise to Knudson Cove where you will join your motorcoach for transfer to the pier.
