This citadel town was inhabited from the third century to the late 19th century. The 2003 Earthquake in Bam destroyed more than 80 percent of the Citadel.
I heard that Lonely Planet somehow excluded this place from the book and now some people even do not know this ruin but when you visit the south area of Iran, this place is one of the MUST-VISIT place. I do not know how it was like before the big earthquake destroyed here but even after the earthquake, it is magnificent to walk round the old city.. nostalsic and romantic. Especially if you go close to sunset you can havea beautiful castle, houses, ruins with dramatic shades of the sun! My recommendation is visit there after a bit long lunch, arriving around 3 or 4 in the afternoon.

Ganj Ali Khan Complex, located at the intersection of two main lines of Kerman Bazaar in an area of 11000 square meters, is a symbol of high human values in Safavid Dynasty. This unique complex contains all features of Naghshe Jahan Complex in a smaller scale such as bathhouse, masjid (mosque), caravanserai, square, school, ab anbar (water reservoir), mint (a place where money is coined) and a bazaar all built and decorated with the most beautiful architectural and art techniques of its own time.
