This memorial to Kentuckians killed in Vietnam is a giant sundial whose shadows fall on every name on the anniversary of that soldier's death.
Built like a sundial so that the gnomon (look it up, I had to) casts a shadow onto the circular surface. The whole thing is designed so that the shadow falls on the names of the honored dead highlighting the month and year of their sacrifice.

Established in 1926 by Lewis Tingley and family, Resthaven Memorial Park has provided a lovely, pastoral setting in which to reflect upon the lives and memories of those we hold most dear. Resthaven Memorial Park has offered comfort and remembrance to generations of families, a tradition we are proud to carry on today. As you walk or drive through the more than 100 acres of meticulously maintained landscaping that follows the natural flow of the terrain, you will find a level of perpetual care that is simply unsurpassed. The beautifully appointed Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, located at the front of the park, is available to all of the families we serve.

Established in 1824, this is considered one of America's most beautifully landscaped cemeteries.
If I had this to do over again, I would have planned the visit a little better. This is a very, very popular free attraction. There are many historical figures interred at this old cemetery. While it is very large and so the crowds aren't bothersome, it discouraged me from doing some exploration.

The grave of Daniel Boone, which has been open for more than 150 years, is the biggest draw at this cemetery.
My wife and I made the trip from Lexington up to Frankfort specifically to see Daniel Boone's alleged grave (Missouri claims that we stole the wrong body when we exhumed him from there back in the 1850's). We wound up spending hours at the site though looking at the historic graves of governors, soldiers, and many more. Perched on a hill overlooking the Kentucky river, and the state capitol building, this cemetery offers breathtaking views, history lessons, and lots of gravestones that are truly works of art.

Both of my great-grandparents are buried here as well as some other family members. This cemetery is absolutely beautiful and so interesting. The monuments and mausoleums are so ornate it is sometimes hard to believe that you are in an actual burial ground. The grounds have plenty of shade and many people go here to walk because of the hills. When I was young my mom would take me here to feed the ducks at the pond.

This cemetery is for US veterans. As the picture shows, simple white headstones all alike lined up in perfect rows. It is a place of solitude and reflection.

Seeing a piece of history and knowledge of some of the lives of the ones buried there. Several steps to the top. Be sure to get the driving brochure at the visitor center. Well worth the climb.

The Elizabethtown City Cemetery was established in 1806. Cemetery Hill is the home of more than 60 Confederate Soldiers who died in the Civil War. Highlights include the Cemetery Hill cannon as well as the graves of actress Susie Bond and four U.S. Congressmen (Joshua Husband Jewitt, Alexander Brooks Montgomery, Bryan Rust Young and William Singleton Young).
