We visited Weltenberg Abbey as a side excursion from our Viking River Cruise. The boat ride thru the Danube narrows was just gorgeous and the Abbey on the river bank is truly a slice of Heaven. After touring the Abbey, enjoy a beer and pretzel in the bier garden. We could have stayed there for hours.

Liberation Hall is a magnificent building well worth a visit even if it is closed. I visited it on a sunny Sunday and as expected it was quite crowded but on an acceptable level. The building was closed due to epidemic regulations but the restaurant and toilets in the tourists information were open. Restaurant of course for to go only. I enjoyed my visit here and will for sure come back once it gets open.

This is a beautiful Baroque church with impressive artwork throughout. I found the statue of St. Georg slaying the dragon at the front to be completely captivating and unlike anything I had seen in other Bavarian Churches. My 9 year old son was very taken with it too, studying it for a long time. It's like looking at picture in a fairy tale book, but in 3D. The other artwork on the sides was very lovely and interesting as well. There is a calm and welcoming atmosphere in this church; it manages to be impressive without being imposing. On the hot summer day we visited Weltenburg, it was also a very cool quiet place to rest. There were many other tourists coming in and out, but it still had a calm and sacred atmosphere.

What an amazing place to visit. The river was beautiful. Enjoyed a small hike above the church, then had a delicious lunch! Don’t miss!

i try to go here every time i go to kelheim. it is an ancient monastary and claims to be the oldest continuous brewery. by history it was founded 617 ad. they have been brewing beer since 1050. the beer is excellent. they have three beers and all are good. they also sell beers to take home. the food is good and the service is also great. it is a short drive or beautiful walk from kelheim.. there is also a frequent boat from kelheim to the monastery. a small gift shop is on site with mostly religious objects for sale with the usual hats and shot glasses.
