Some of the best snorkeling spots in Hawaii are near Keauhou, a town on the west coast of Hawaii's Big Island. The local beaches – which tend to be less busy than those on the Kona coast – also offer swimming, boating, fishing and scuba diving. If it's not a beach day, you can head to the Keauhou Garden of the Kamehamas and take a stroll through the native plants or check out the cultural attractions, restaurants and shops of the Kailua-Kona area.

Popular Hawaii beach for snorkeling.
The Best for Snorkeling close to Kona Cruise Port. Salt & Pepper sand beach is rocky so be sure to bring shoes. Outdoor showers, toilets, concessions and rentals. Very good for wading in tide pools or snorkeling. Large parking area.

Kahalu’u Beach is located towards the southern end of Alii Drive, near Keauhou, and can be easily reached via the Honu Trolley (or scooters, bicycles, etc). Showers, covered picnic tables, & a lifeguard station makes it a great place for families and ocean enthusiasts... there’s a protective rock reef encircling the beach which provides for calmer water inside it, and there’s a myriad of fish to observe while snorkeling. The northern end is a popular spot for beginning surfers (nice sized waves and a short paddle; big storms can create large surf here, so caution is advised under such conditions); rental boards and surfing instructors are available across the street. Enjoy!

The Regal Cinema at the Keauhou Shopping Center is our go-to spot in Kona for enjoying movies :)). It’s rarely crowded here, and the well maintained facility offers all the necessary amenities (plus the staff are pleasant and friendly). If you’re looking for a way to spend a hot afternoon or rainy day, then you’ll find that this theater will be a great option... enjoy!
