Katni (also known as Murwara (Katni) or Mudwara) is a town on the banks of the Katni River in Madhya Pradesh, India. Katni is also known as city of marbles. It is the administrative headquarters of Katni District. It is in the Mahakoshal Region of Central India. The city is 90 km (56 mi) from the Divisional Headquarters of the region, Jabalpur. Katni is the 2nd busiest railway junction of Madhya Pradesh and largest railway junction in central India.

Ashokan verse painted on a big stone which is an order written in Pali language to follow Buddhism. Adjacent to the temple are three kunds namely Ram kund, Sita kund and Lakshman kund which are naturaly made and are always full of water.
