The waterfalls, hot springs, and mountain views in Karuizawa make this Japanese town a popular destination for nature lovers. Hike an easy route to the tumbling waters of Shiraito Falls, then head to Kumobaike pond to relax in what legend says is the footprint of a giant. When you tire of the great outdoors, the Kyukaruizawa Ginza shopping district is a wonderful place to spend some time—and some yen.

Good location, less than 10 minutes on foot from Karuizawa Station. You walk and play with a hand-operated cart, not a passenger car. The course is wide and flat, so even beginners can enjoy it. The charge is prepaid. It's all self-service including loading and unloading bags. 18 holes, par 70, 5, 742 yards. The fairway is Zoisia japonica, the green is bent turf. There is no driving range. There is a locker room, shower rooms, a shop.
