Kapaa, also spelled Kapa'a, means "solid" in Hawaiian. Travelers find this small town, nestled at the base of Nounou (the Sleeping Giant) Mountain on Kauai tourist friendly with its diverse array of hotels, shopping centers, and restaurants. The Kinipopo Shopping Village is a favorite for its fun eateries and small keepsake shops. Look for the "Kauai Made" logo for products made by local craftsmen using traditional materials. Kappa also offers water sports, including water skiing and kayaking.

Great for all ages, my sister and parents and I had a wonderful bike ride along the coast. The paved path made for easy riding and there were plenty of pull-offs and scenic overlooks. You might even see a sea turtle or two! The rented bikes had baskets and bells on them. Bring water, sunscreen and a hat!

We attended 5 PM Mass on a Saturday. The church is lovely, peaceful and almost gives the impression that you are out of doors, because of all the glass. Light and airy. We were welcomed with leis and recognized as visitors, the homily was good and interesting, the lectors did a great job, and the congregation all sang. My special takeaway and food for thought: "We trust Uber to get us where we are going, we trust the doctor when he gives us a prescription, so why do we hesitate to trust God?" A simple concept, but uniquely expressed. Mahalo.

This is a spiritual visit, and even if you are not religious or follow Hinduism, it's worth a visit because of the energy and peacefulness of the place. I have visited many Hindu temples around the world, but this is unique. It's also the first time we were able to visit a Hindu temple undergoing construction and talk to the sculptors. They said that each tap on the stone is an act of worship. The temple is built on a majestic part of the hill and it's where the founding Swami saw Shiva in 1969. We were blessed to talk to the founding swamis and hear his perspective on life and death, and how the temple came to fruition. Also, if you wear shorts to the temple, they have sarongs at the entrance where you can wrap yourself waist down.

Great hike, gives you a nice workout, with only one area that you need to scramble on. It is listed as one of the hardest on the easy list. If you are a hiker and like a bit of a challenge this is for you. Beautiful views, can be slippery if wet.

We hiked this in Nov 2020, on a day with a lot of rain. Trail was muddy but the footing was OK- you'll get a little dirty, but the views on this trail are totally worth it! Starting about 1/2 mile in, you'll get beautiful vistas of the mountains, rainforest, and the ocean off in the distance.

I was in this shop in January. The shopkeeper was extremely friendly and personable. She knew her products and mechandise very well. She would ask who you were buying for and some of their likes and dislikes. Then, she would make recommendations. I bought several gifts and gave them to friends on the Mainland who loved them The shop smells great too.
