See a buffalo up close, live like a cowboy for a day on a working cattle ranch or visit a stagecoach stop on the Sante Fe Trail are just a few of the many vacation experiences possible in this state in America’s heartland. You’ll love the wide-open spaces and the opportunities to engage in a variety of one-of-a-kind experiences in this marvelous state, which has the largest segment of true tallgrass prairie remaining in the U.S. Regardless of where you visit: a major metropolitan area like Kansas City, a college town like Manhattan or Lawrence or engaging places like Wichita, Dodge City and Salina, there are a wide array of attractions and sights nearby. If you want to familiarize yourself with cowboy culture, visit the Boot Hills Museum in Dodge City, dine on all-you-can-eat barbeque and hear songs of the American Cowboy at Diamond W Chuckwagon Supper in Wichita or explore the Dickinson County Heritage Center in Abilene, which has dance halls, gaming rooms and 32 saloons.
For outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, bird watching and other activities, three of the state’s most popular parks are: Cheney State Park near Wichita; Scott State Park near Scott City and Tuttle Creek State Park near Manhattan.

My wife and I went with our 24 year old daughter who works in the area and it was a wonderful afternoon. It is recommended to call ahead and we didn’t know that but Ms. Imelda accommodated us anyway with a wonderful personal tour of the organic farm, the crafts they create, and an alpaca visit. Afterwards we spent some time in the gift shop which had many items of interest including home made jams, pottery, soaps, alpaca yarn made at the farm, and hand made quilts. After selecting several items from the gift shop we went hiking around the farm on the labyrinth and ran across a wild 9 banded armadillo. There are rooms and houses available for rent if you really want to get away and enjoy some relaxing down time. It was a wonderful afternoon for our family.

Very nice. A great place to learn about an earlier life in Olathe and how important Olathe was to the development of the WEST. Take your time to check out the museum and read the Captions of the displays. Tour the house and barn areas as well. Very Nice!!

The Alma Creamery has been in business since 1946 and has provided their customers with the best tasting handcrafted cheddar and jack cheeses. The Alma Creamery is located in Alma, Kansas (3 miles south of I-70) in the heart of the Midwest. The cheddar and jack cheeses come in many different sizes and varieties with the new addition (2019) of flavored cheese curds.
Stopped in yesterday, the lady waiting on us was very nice and informative. Great cheese and summer sausage. Garlic Cheese Curds are my favorite. Free samples along with some other goodies. Great prices and good eats, we will be back. Some places you try the cheese is expensive and not very flavorful. Found that not to be the case here, you gotta give em a try!

We are a family owned farm located in the southwest corner of Johnson County, Kansas in Edgerton, Kansas. We grow a variety of fruits and vegetables that we offer to the public on our U-pick farm. You can also buy our products at two local farmers’ markets, Overland Park and Lawrence. Our produce & Fall Fest Timeline: Strawberries (Early May) Blueberries (June) Blackberries (Mid June - July) *During berry season we make fresh strawberry or blueberry donuts and strawberry lemonade slushees. Peaches (Late June-August) Tomatoes (June-August) Sweet Corn (Late June -August) Sunflower Field (late September) U-Pick Pumpkins – (October) *During our fall season we make fresh pumpkin donuts and apple cider slushees.
This was our first time out here and it won’t be the last. We came for the pumpkins and were treated with a tractor ride, corn maze, giant “hamster-wheel-tube-thing” (check the picture), pumpkin jump, corn pit, hay mountain, combine slides, pumpkin donuts, apple cider, apple cider slushees, and food. The kids had an absolute blast; we were there for a couple hours. Pretty much all the activities are geared towards kids, but there’s no reason why parents can’t join in on the fun and partake in the activities. Adults don’t have to just stand idly by and watch the kids have all the fun anymore! They have ample parking and the activities were spaced out so it won’t feel like you are bumping into other people, along with picnic tables. With Pumpkinfest in late-September and October, you can come pick your pumpkins for the holidays. They also have other harvesting activities throughout the year for: strawberries (early May), blueberries (June), blackberries (mid-June through July), peaches (late-June through August), tomatoes (June through Augues), sweet corn (late-June through August), and sunflowers (late-September). If you are in the KC-metro area, you will have to drive a while to here there, but it’s an easy drive and so worth it. We were very lucky with the weather—couldn’t have been more perfect. Can’t wait to go back next year for all the pickins.
