Kāneʻohe is a census-designated place (CDP) included in the City and County of Honolulu and located in Hawaiʻi state District of Koʻolaupoko on the island of Oʻahu. In the Hawaiian language, kāne ʻohe means "bamboo man". According to an ancient Hawaiian story a local woman compared her husband's cruelty to the sharp edge of cutting bamboo; thus the place was named Kāneʻohe or "Bamboo man". The population was 34,597 at the 2010 census. Kāneʻohe is the largest of several communities along Kāneʻohe Bay and one of the two largest residential communities on the windward side of Oʻahu (the other is Kailua). The commercial center of the town is spread mostly along Kamehameha Highway.

Kualoa Ranch is an absolutely gorgeous place, with amazing tours, amazing tours guides, and amazing sites! My family is a big Walt Disney World fan, and the Movie Sites Tour (we didn't do the premium one) had a lot in common with some of the rides there. It had the humor of Jungle Cruise, and the animals of Kilimanjaro Safaris. Shout out to our fantastic tour guide Stephanie, who had an amazing sense of humor and made the tour one of the best parts of our trip.

A 200 acre botanical garden.
Wonderful gardens, well maintained and laid it. Hiking is awesome for neophytes all the way to experienced folk. Well worth your time; fascinating collection of tropical plants.

This was great fun to hike--we just had to be super careful on the way down. It had rained heavily the previous day and the mud/clay was treacherous. We got a nice view from the top because it was sunny when we hiked. That is not always the case for many hikes in Hawaii. The vegetation was really interesting to me (first time in Hawaii). I got to see one of my favorite flowers, Lantana, as a perennial. I live in a zone where it does not survive the winter. Enjoy the hike, the view will be frosting!

I had a great time taking my wife to the Kaneohe Sandbar. I rented the Kayaks from the Heeia State Park. Rebecca was very helpful with telling me my options for the rental and Andy was informative and cared about our safety telling us everything we needed to know while kayaking to and from the Sandbar I had a great time and great experience!

I loved this hiking trail located in Koolau. Short hike and amazing view of Kaneohe Bay from the bunker hill. Fantastic view on a clear day. There is some incline on this trail but worth it for your cardio work out. Family friendly hike too. Parking is public street by the residential area so be mindful with the neighborhood. And when walking to the trail start, carefully on the street for passing cars.

This was a 5.6km there-and-back trek which is technically "forbidden" but everyone does it anyways (there will be a fence that you can simply stroll around to access the hike). You'll gain about 250m on this hike with some parts that can be tricky particularly with recent rainfall. Otherwise, it is a shaded hike through the forest with surprisingly few bugs/mosquitoes thankfully. The waterfalls are gorgeous and you can actually go into the pool below them if you wish as well!
