Neoklasiko Private Folklore and Historical Collections

Another summer in Greece with a yearning to stay in Kalymnos only. Although we had a very full itinerary it was a must “go to” the Neoclassico museum. The museum run by Michael Kyrannis has colorfully exhibited more artifacts, pictures, traditional costumes and so much more that a review can possibly mention on its entirety. The museum has embraced us with a wealth of history and folklore that Mr. Kyrannis so zealously presents. His hospitality, his enthusiasm and contagious smile makes you want to stay at the Neoclassico Museum in Kalymnos all day. Every corner, every crevice bursts with color whereby the lives of Kalymnians unfold before you from centuries ago. Tears certainly fill one’s eyes knowing that within a FREE entrance to a world history books cannot encapsulate, Michael Kyrannis masterfully educates you about the island of his forefathers. A museum free of charge yet priceless! Thank you for enriching our summer for one more time and look forward to taking a trip through Kalymnian history again next year. Thanks again, Thanasi and Popi Zervos-Augoustatos

Archaeological Museum of Kalymnos

Hard to find and a long steepish climb up from the harbour this museum is well worth the €4pp entrance fee. The statues are amazing, some still have their original colour on them, and they have one bronze statue which was found at the bottom of the sea. Info boards in Greek and English tell the story of the exhibits very well. Although a museum employee follows you around the museum to make sure you don't take any photos your not suppose to your not hurried. Even though there are lots of photos of sponges on trip advisor there are no sponges at the museum or anything to do with sponge diving.

Factory of Natural Sponges

Reviewed By EileenMtShasta - Mount Shasta, United States

Many different sponges here - different shapes, sizes, consistencies, prices, etc - something for everyone! My sister and I each bought several kinds. The owners were nice enough to explain things, like the softer sponges were meant for washing the face, and how the brown sponges were not bleached and so were more natural, etc. We were on Kalymnos for a week in August 2019.
