Stately Oaks is an 1839 antebellum house listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its plain Greek Revival architecture is representative of the era in which it was built. It was originally constructed in 1839 by Mr. Whitmill Allen who sold his home to Robert McCord in 1858 and then moved to Tyler, Texas. It is located in Jonesboro, GA., the very city where Scarlett had to pay the taxes on Tara. Even though Tara only existed in Margaret Mitchell's imagination, she placed Tara in Clayton County where she had visited relatives who lived on a large plantation south of Jonesboro. Many of the stories she heard as a child are in the movie. Clayton County is truly home of Gone With the Wind. Also on site, are a one room schoolhouse, a tenant cabin, cook's house, country store, blacksmith shop and Native American Indian Village.
Our guides Colonel Al and Miss Connie were wonderful! Their authentic period clothing and knowledge about the history of the plantation were entertaining as well as educational. Our group had a delicious catered lunch in the one-room schoolhouse. This would be a great place for families, couples, or groups.

The nature that is avalable here is breathtaking. There is a couple ponds, swamps, and lakes around the preserve. There is snakes loose so something to be on the lookout for. There is turtles, swans, ducks, geese, deer, and different birds in the area. Very motivating to take a morning jog around the trail.

Located in the Official Home of Gone With the Wind, the Road to Tara Museum invites you to relive Rhett and Scarlett's epic romance. From the true stories of the 1864 Battle of Jonesboro to the characters that brought Margaret Mitchell's beloved novel to life, there is something for everyone. See original movie props and wardrobe items, reproductions of some of Scarlett's most famous dresses, items from the 1939 Atlanta premiere and a Civil War exhibit featuring the Atlanta Campaign and Battle of Jonesboro.

Spivey Hall, located on the campus of Clayton State University, is a 400-seat, acoustically-superior performing arts venue that has presented the best in jazz and classical music to the metro Atlanta area since 1991. Its celebrated concert series receives regular national and international attention as one of America's finest, and the Hall's acoustics and design are routinely lauded by patrons, pundits and performers. Thanks to frequent appearances on American Public Media's "Performance Today," as heard on public radio stations across the country, the hall has earned a national reputation while also reaching an international audience through exposure in such publications as BBC Music magazine and International Arts Manager. The Hall also routinely receives superb accolades from the noted artists it annually presents. "Spivey is the best of the newer small halls in America," says concert pianist Steven Blier, while jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis believes "Spivey Hall is the most fantastic little performance hall I have played - ever!" In addition to a world-renowned concert series, Spivey Hall has an innovative approach to education-outreach, which has resulted in the formation of the award-winning Spivey Hall Children's Choir and the newer Spivey Hall Young Artists. Its Young People's Concerts series won the prestigious Abby Award for arts education in Atlanta in 1998.
Perhaps the best music venue in which I have heard concerts! It is a small hall, about 350 seats. The acoustics are fantastic. They have major sponsorship from a benefactor (Dr. Spivey), so they get world class musicians and groups and sell tickets for affordable prices; $25-75. It is a super bargain for the caliber, acoustics, and close view. We have been to about 50 concerts there during the last 15 years. This is their 25 anniversary and they are bringing in about 25 world class performing groups to celebrate the anniversary. It is on the campus of Clayton State University; lots of free parking. Spivey Hall is on a beautiful lake.
If you like classical or refined music, take in a concert at this Great Music Venue!

Row upon row of mostly unmarked graves of Confederate soldiers who died in a local hospital.
Don't really know what to say, since it's a cemetery. But it's not JUST a cemetery. Besides that it's absolutely beautiful, it's also a very peaceful and powerful place. A great quick stop on our way back to Atlanta from visiting a few other historical sites in Jonesboro.

Fun Spot America Atlanta offers over two dozen family attractions, thrill rides, 3 mini golf courses, fast paced go-kart tracks, and fun for the whole family! Located in Fayetteville, Ga just 8 miles South of the Atlanta airport!
This is a very large property with vast potential but because of the internet and smart phones, places like this must change to attract visitors.
I think they are doing the best they can but they need need idea's to attract adults without children.
For a family event, it is a bit on the high price side, but it has to be because this place must be expensive to operate. Very difficult business to make profitable.

The National Archives at Atlanta is a center for the study of the history of the South, a diverse region rich with family tradition. Native Americans were living on the land when the first settlers arrived. African slaves were then brought over, and later came Irish, English, Italian, Russian, and Cuban immigrants. Their stories, told in the seemingly incongruous records of the federal government, provide evidence of the universal human drama that is American family life. Records in the National Archives tell the story of southern families and communities, technological advances that changed lives, and social and economic forces that shaped the makeup of our society.
The work areas for visitors are relatively small, but more than adequate even on Saturdays. The staff is excellent, dealing with everything from recalcitrant computers to questions about District Court documents. As a historian it is a pleasure to work in this branch archive.

I went here to Run an annual 5K for children with cancer. This is a great place to come and hang out, walk the trails they have mile markers on them so you can track your distance. There is a decent man made beach. Great for the kids to play and run around. Saturdays are real busy with vendors and people. The closet beach to me is Savannah which is 3 hours away so this fills the void from time to time.
