We had a very enjoyable energizing hike through the valley of the beautiful tropical rainforest. Well maintained gardens with lots of biodiversity.

also callled Menghan, 30km south of Jinghung along the Mekong River
Xishuangbanna Daizu Garden (西双版纳傣族园景区) Tourists pay an entrance fee to the Daizu Scenic Area. Then take a buggy to visit the many sites of interest; we only focused on the temples and market. (There are plenty of places to eat and a cultural show if of interest. ) The woven Buddha was a highlight. Beautiful location, historical sites and spacious natural surroundings.

We happily headed directly on the cablecar over the 370 hectares of National Natural Reserve, then walked leisurely back over the observation decks (1.5hrs.) Our highlight was visiting the Asian Elephant Breeding & Rescue Centre, Wild Elephant Valley, Xishuangbanna. We were very fortunate to see Yi-Nuen (mum) & Yi-Sheun (baby,) Asian Elephants out in the wild. Great day (top tip: avoid ‘school’ & ‘dance’ shows at the main entrance.)

About 1- 1.5 hours drive from Xishuangbanna downtown up to the mountain. You can either use the highway which would be smoother or the narrow old road which is single lane both sides and would slow you down when there is heavy vehicles. Is good to be in the morning with the gradual mountain climb on stone steps. The initial climb from the entrance gate might be a little taxing for elderly people. The tour is a guided tour in Chinese for overall about 2 hours including a short dance performance at the hill top with peanut and fried chickens servings. The tour takes you through their Yinuo houses and along the path they sell home made items and food. The glutinous rice is pretty good. Going down hill they let you taste their local bananas and rice wine. It is interesting to see the various tribal costumes. An interesting tribal village if you like culture which should not be missed. After this visit in the morning, then you could proceed to the xishuangbanna rainforest park in the afternoon which is about 20 minutes drive away
