This is a hidden-away gem in Wuxi, and definitely worth the visit. The gardens were large and beautiful. History is alive with nearly every step you take. We did have an English-speaking guide which was important and was able to point out the highlights we might have otherwise missed before exploring on our own. This spot is very quiet and tranquil and provides a break from the large crowds we always seemed to encounter.

Built in 1084, this was the tallest bridge of its kind in its hay day. Now it offers a scenic view of the surrounding lake and leads into one of the entrances of the Panmen - a scenic ancient compound.

We came on a clear, winter night and had the entire structure to ourselves. Truly mind-blowing the details of the triplicate walls, the gates, the views of the city from atop that seemed to stretch forever, and just the sheer size of it all! I could see this as a very usable venue. This made us decide to skip the Great Wall once we got to Beijing, and we have no regrets.
