What to do and see in Jersey Shore, Jersey Shore: The Best Water & Amusement Parks

November 5, 2021 Almeta Stockton

The Atlantic coast of New Jersey, with its beaches and boardwalks, stretches from Sandy Hook in the north to Cape May in the south. Fresh ocean breezes fan 127 miles of sandy beaches. Drive between cities or catch a NJ Transit bus or Atlantic City jitney bus. Atlantic City packs people in to nightlife venues and casinos. Wildwood's boardwalk is well-trod. Asbury Park is once again popular, particularly with gays and lesbians. Cape May's restaurants and Victorian inns lure tourists to the historic town.

First trip to Storybook Land today. I'd been passing it for 2 years after I moved to the area and it always seemed it was a little cheesy and intended for tourists. Today I had the chance to take my 2 year old granddaughter - what a wonderful sweet place! It is definitely set up for the 6 and under crowd - all of the rides are small-ish. There is minimum 36" height to ride alone on most rides so a child is going to be 2.5 years and have enough awareness to be able to ride. A few of the rides are for 42" and have a few more thrills and then there are rides like the train and tram for everyone. The rides seemed very clean, well maintained. The grounds were lovely with flowers and the overhead tree canopy keeps most areas of the park in the shade. There are wonderful statues/stationery items that are perfect for snapping pictures. We had a light lunch and it was obvious that they thought about kids needs: a kid's hot dog meal included waffle fries, gummies and chocolate milk contained in a little Storybook land lunch box. The park is a reasonable size for young kids and grandparents - not too big like a Great Adventure. Two hours was plenty for a 2 year old to ride almost every ride she could. I'm looking into season passes as it was that good. COVID: The attendance is currently limited and you have to register ahead - not sure what they have set the capacity at, but it was a very workable crowd to socially distance. We got on all of the rides, no waiting. The ride operators cleaned the seats used after every ride. All of the operators had masks as did the visitors. They even have the cutest little masks for young kids with the park logo on the front (not like my 2 year old would put up with it). They appear to take this seriously.

Wildwood Boardwalk

The Wildwood Boardwalk in New Jersey is miles of magic with 100s of rides and attractions. Free beaches and oceanfront waterparks.

Some reviews say Wildwood is going downhill. From someone who visited it regularly while I lived in New Jersey, I can state the reverse. During the 70s and 80s, the area had a poor reputation. Today, it is poised for families instead of gangs of teenagers. This is regardless of the T-Shirt shops and other shlock areas. They exist everywhere. You can even find them in Estes Park, CO. It certainly didn't stop the stores from being crowded during a pandemic weekend. What makes this area wonderful is the beach. It's so wide that you can stay six feet apart without an issue and still be close to the water. And that's cool to your feet when the rest of the area is warm and humid.

This water park is the best!! Clean, comfortable and outstanding supervision by the lifeguards!! Raging Waters is a deal... we try to go during the week days, so there aren’t too many people. Love the Lazy River! The children’s area is well maintained and supervised. There is plenty of table space for eating, and food prices aren’t out of sight. Restrooms are very clean and maintained. No visit to the shore is complete unless you visit Morey’s water park!

If you come to Ocean City you must visit Wonderland. What a fun amusement park for every age. Also, I always see online they support their community. My favorite rides are the swings, log flume, and Alien Abduction.
