The Howard Steamboat Museum is a unique time capsule into another world where you can experience life in an impeccably preserved 1890's built Victorian mansion. Inside is a museum to the three-generation steamboat building Howard family and their historic shipyard. We give you the option of a guided or self guided experience.
This is both a particularly beautiful mansion and a steamboat museum. It belonged to the Howard family, who owned the company and shipyard across the street that built the largest number of steamboats on the Ohio/Missouri/Mississippi River system. And it has models, pictures, and artifacts from a large number of them. The main floor is largely preserved as the family had it, with lots of beautiful woodwork by the same artisans that decorated the steamboats. The same craftsmen just had to cross the street to work on the boss' house. Upstairs is the museum with all the models, write-ups, pictures, and artifacts. If you are a big steamboat fan, you can spend several hours in this place. And talking with staff can also be very informative. We got a good basic introduction to the steamboat era, to the Howard Family and the company, from a young man who was apparently relatively new, but we asked him lots of questions and he had answers for all of them. Later we had a few more questions that we asked of more senior staff, and they were extremely informative. This place is great, and we'll probably do a return visit some time. One major purpose of the trip was to ride the Belle of Louisville, and a visit to this place is an excellent tie-in with that cruise!

Match’s bar is one of the best bars we have spent time at. Their selection of bourbon, scotch, rum, and other spirits were carefully selected to offer a wide range of choices, but always of the highest quality. Their signature cocktails do not disappoint. Among their well stocked offerings were many hidden gems that added so much value to the experience. It could be said that it is a bar for conniseurs of fine beverage without the high price or prentention. The pours are generous and the service impeccable. We found the staff to be incredibly friendly and helpful. Furthermore, it is a cigar friendly place with many comfortable chairs, allowing you to comfortably lounge and enjoy a great cocktail or spirit. Next door, sharing an interior door is the cigar shop, offering a comparable choice of cigars. Like the spirit lineup, there was a great selection that represented a solid crossection of quality, catering to the serious and casual smoker all for a very reasonable price. Every day, we would purchase our cigars then buy our drinks at the bar and enjoy several hours of relaxation. Couldn’t be happier with our experience.
