High Point City Lake Park

Reviewed By Queen J - Fresno

This is a nice, large city park in High Point, perfect for a family outing. The park grounds include several large sheltered picnic areas, restrooms, 2 playgrounds, a merry go round, a train, a gym, an outdoor stage, a mini golf course, an olympic style pool with a maximum depth of 5 ft and two pipe waterslides, and a 340 acre lake with a pontoon boats, canoes, and kayaks for rent.

I visited on a Tuesday in late September, so it was very quiet and peaceful. Most of the facilities (merry go round, train, mini golf course) are closed until next summer, and the pool was drained. The mini golf course was very small and looked a bit neglected. However, the park and picnic shelters were open, and I saw one pontoon boat and a few people canoeing on the lake.

This isn't really a tourist attraction, more like a great place for a family outing or a summer hot spot for locals.

World's Largest Highboy Dresser

Reviewed By loves2travelandmore - Forest, Virginia

Furnitureland South has over one million square feet of floor space over several buildings, displaying a vast array of types and styles of furniture. The goods tend to be high quality and include many designer names. It is a fantastic shopping experience to see things not found in typical furniture stores. Unique accessories are displayed as well. Prices are high, even in the outlet store, but sometimes a good buy can be found. The sales staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Many items can be custom ordered with a variety of fabric or colors available. It is a good place to get ideas but involves lots and lots of walking if you try to see it all. The Highboy Dresser is an attractive--and huge--eye-catcher. Sometimes the store offers special deals on shipping. They will protectively wrap items you plan to take yourself.

We had a wonderful experience at Kersey Valley. We were in High Point doing a service assignment for Habitat for Humanity of High Point, Archdale and Trinity for five weeks, and were donated this from Kersey Valley Laser Tag. The day was phenomenal and the people there were outstanding to work with. We would definitely recommend this experience to any and all.

Mendenhall Plantation

Reviewed By cheryl h - Durham, North Carolina

This 1811 Quaker home place served as a gathering place for local residents and a stopover for weary travelers. Richard Mendenhall even had a false-bottom wagon to transport slaves for the Underground Railroad. Every year on the 3rd Saturday in July they have a Village Fair that features music, crafts, wool spinners, chair makers, gun makers (all dressed in period clothing) etc and children activities. The hours of operation are:

Tuesday - Friday: 11am - 3pm
Saturday: 1pm - 4pm
Sunday: 2pm - 4pm
Closed Mondays

The Mendenhall Store is right across the street in the park and if you go a little further towards the water you will find the old Quaker meeting place.

World's Largest Chest of Drawers

Reviewed By pobtm - Centralia, Pennsylvania

Okay first of all: the main photo listed for this place is wrong (as of 2-18-2018). There are several large sculptures of furniture in the area. The actual site at this address does not match the photo on this listing. The correct photos for this address are for a large black dresser with two socks sticking out of the middle drawer.

Secondly, there is no parking for this building. There is a tiny real estate office next door on one side and a house on the other. Since it was a Saturday, we carefully parked at the real estate office. If you visit during the week you may not want to do that.

With those disclaimers having been said, this attraction is fun to visit. It's not just a huge sculpture of a dresser - it's actually part of an office building! If you circle around the sides of the dresser you'll see that it's attached to the rest of the building and (if you were allowed inside) you could walk inside the dresser.

I knocked on the side, and it sounded hollow and light. Maybe it's constructed from fiberglass? Anyway it's a fun celebration of the furniture industry which brought so much prosperity to this area in the 20th century.

We took my son and his family (4 grandkids) to the farm for a visit and had a wonderful time. The staff was extra friendly and nice and the butterflies were awesome. It was a truly educational experience as well and good for the kids and adults alike. We also played in the play area and threw the frisbee around a while. We had a nice picnic at a nice covered picnic area. The farm is clean, nice and well organized. Highly recommend you try this.
