In the Middle Ages the territory of the present day Jeruzalem was given to a German chivalric order. Frederick of Ptuj granted them the territory as a feudal estate. They left their mark in the church with their cross on the ceiling above the main altar. The church was named after the painting of the Mother of Sorrows (the original is claimed to have been brought here by the crusaders or pilgrims from Jerusalem, Palestine, in the 13th century).
