Keshet Cave is located in the Western Galilee, close to Kibbutz Adamit. The cave, as of today is no longer so much a cave, it’s actually a huge rock ARCH hanging in the air, and below it a huge cliff. In the past the cave was completely closed but over time it was exposed and developed as a result of geological operations and its ceiling collapsed over the years. This condition, in which only an arch remains between heaven and earth, has turned the cave into a spectacular abseiling site. On a clear day, the wonderful view of the Upper Galilee is reflected in all four winds of heaven.

We visited this nature preserve with our 3 kids (ages 12, 9, and 6) on a day off from school. It was still very hot, so we took the short, 1km Geological loop hike. It is a steep hike, but the kids were very interested in seeing the lizards and fossils in the rocks. The highlight was finding the cave towards the end of the hike and climbing there in the shade with ocean views. The Neanderthal caves are interesting(the movie is pretty outdated), but I’m glad we did the hike first otherwise the kids might have said they were too tired. We brought snacks and water and there are shaded picnic tables where you can eat. The barefoot “sensory walk” was also a hit with my kids. We will definitely return for the longer hike once the weather cools off.

We were most fortunate to have mass celebrated for our small group in this small cave. It has been held that Christ and his companions frequented this cave, and that it was from this cave that Christ went out to pray in the Garden that night after they had the Last Supper. Whether it was in the cave where Judas betrayed Christ or whether it was very near there in the Garden itself isn't the point. It is in this very small area where these critical events occurred and where salvation history continued to play out. Very much worth a visit...it is a spot many pilgrims miss.
