The glowing Mosquito Bay is a vision of bizarre beauty. Thanks to a bioluminescent microorganism, the water is a cool electric blue, looking somewhat like a fantastical sci-fi lagoon. Kayak or hop into a clear-bottomed pontoon boat to glide along the neon waters. Swimmers and snorkelers will adore the pristine, undeveloped beaches. Keep an eye out for the playful feral horses that gallop along the dunes, or visit the stately ceiba tree that’s been keeping watch over the highland for three centuries.

Very clean, nicely organized and when cars are not passing by (usually in the evening) pretty serene as well! We visited during January 2021 COVID era so it was pretty dead in this area other than the weekend evenings which made the walks and sunsets even more enjoyable. Plenty of area to stay in the shade during the day, enjoy the sunset in the evening or just take a nice walk along the shoreline - perfect! TIP: Do check out the restaurants in the area or the Vieques Gift shop - full package area of the island as you also have a small beach in the front or simply more to the east where the pier is.

Snorkeling under the pier is great, but creepy for some! There is a breakwater which keeps the waves down. The water is 40 feet deep there, and on a good day you can see clearly to the bottom. Every time I have gone there I have seen at least 3 or 4 turtles. Just be patient and keep moving around. If there are fisherman on the pier with lines in the water it's really no big deal at all- they are generally off the very far end. Lots of fish, especially near the outer end. The way to access it: there is a wide-open gate you drive through about 50? yards from where the pier starts. Stop here and park. There is a set of concrete stairs off of the left (west) side leading down into the water. It's about a 50 yard swim out to the pier. If you're squeamish about going it alone, call one of the snorkeling outfits on the island to guide you. I can recommend one if you contact me. Enjoy!

This tree is amazing! It's a great spot for photos and a little down time. We did this near the end of our day after beach hopping. It was beautiful, peaceful and amazing! We got some great photos. There is a small beach access across from the tree but so many other nicer beaches on the island. This is a quick photo op spot, and a spot to reflect on the beauty we have here!

Once again we had this beautiful spot to ourselves. It is a short flat walk from a parking lot. The lighthouse itself is decaying and is fenced off. There is a sign explaining its history. The views from this point are spectacular!

The pretty capital of Vieques offers a restored 1840s fort and busy waterfront.
This is the only place in Vieques with The Ferry Terminal, The pharmacy, The USA Post office, The health food store (Yerba Buena), The only bank on the island, The Spanish Fort, The Print Shop, The hair/nail/massage Salon, The biggest of two supermarkets on the island, The Cancer Survival Group Thrift Store, The Humane Society Thrift Store, The Major’s Office and much more! Also where you can find around 11 (out of 17 - three not around for different reasons) #artbycarlosgil murals. Local artist has been spreading Love, Light and Life around the island with his words, colors and inspiration! Two at the ferry dock, in front of the high school, at the coliseum, at the Fort Conde de Mirasol (3), at the Fine Arts Building Museum area, by the Vieques Air Link Offices on the way to La Viequense Bakery, at the cemetery, across the street from of El Resuelve on an abandoned building and another one by the Middle School! Impressive work all done on his free time! I’m including some photos of some murals. Check him out on Facebook for works on private homes in Vieques! It also has about four (4) money machines (maybe around ten (10) on the whole island). The town offers free rides during the day on weekdays to and from the other side of the island - Esperanza area- where there is the biggest concentration of bars, restaurants, hotels and services offered for Bioluminiscent Bay (area called Esperanza). Some of my pictures are at the Vieques Emporium Store steps from the ferry terminal!

Vieques' past as a sugar producing island and the history of the two sugar centrals was fascinating. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the Sugar Mill Ruins and hope that even more will be done to protect what is left and tell the story of Vieques.

At the end of 1991, male human remains of the man named "the man from Puerto Ferro" were found. It is considered a burial site since it has planned characteristics such as the alignment of carved rocks pointing towards the bay. The fetal position in which the remains were found indicates that it was a planned mortuary practice. The skeleton dates from approximately four thousand years. In spite of being located in a private estate in PR-997, it is labeled so that the public can access for free
