In the late 1950s, amid a dramatic landscape of eroded sandstone pillars, archaeologists unearthed one of the most significant Stone Age finds ever identified. Tools found at the site – hammerstones, axeheads, flints and scrapers – are estimated to be between 60,000 and 100,000 years old. There’s a museum with small, well-captioned displays highlighting some of the discoveries. Isimila is signposted off the Mbeya road to the left, about 21km southwest of Iringa.

What a fabulous trip! I booked this safari for my birthday at the suggestion of a friend and was well-rewarded for my decision to go with Wild Gaze. Ernest Lugala knows his stuff. He was courteous and professional and took care of the smallest details. We had to delay the start of the trip by two days, but he was able to rearrange the schedule and rebook our accomodations so that I still got to do everything on the original itinerary. Then I decided to add a hot-air balloon ride over the Serengeti, and he negotiated a discount for me. He even arranged to have a birthday celebration for me with a delicious dinner and cake in the bush. It was the most memorable birthday of my life. I would have no hesitation booking another safari with him when the time comes.

We booked a day tour with African Pangolin Safaris. They were very responsive and organized a tour for us only one day ahead of our inquiry. It was a wonderful experience! Our tour guide and driver was Yunus. He is very knowledgeable of both animals and plants and the Mikumi Park and area in general. The road and traffic from Dar Es Salaam to Mikumi is very busy and crowded and the travel takes some time and effort - Yunus also did that part like a pro, always calm and careful. I wholeheartedly recommend African Pangolin Safaris, great agency and great people!
Wildlife in Ruaha is concentrated along the Great Ruaha River that is the park’s lifeblood. The river is a torrent after the rains, dwindling to a few precious ponds of water surrounded by a sweep of sand in the dry season. Waterbuck, impala and the world’s most southerly lives for a sip of water the shores of Ruaha are a permanent hunting ground for lion, leopard, jackal, hyena and the rare and endangered African Wild Dog Ruaha’s 8,000 elephants are recovering strongly from ivory poaching during the 1980s and remain the largest population in East Africa Ruaha is the only protected area in which the flora and fauna of eastern and southern African overlap leading to fascinating combinations of wildlife both Greater and lesser kudu live here, as do sable and Roan Antelope

Not difficult trekking with nice views. Near the waterfall there is a views point with a panorama of the city of Morogoro - deserving every drop of sweat;) I did my trip with a guide named Evance. Nice day spent in good company. Nice and smiling dude with whom you can have a good conversation. Also caring and with knowledge. I recommend!
