An iconic and a unique place for those who are on a quest to acquire a priceless treasure. One of the oldest book store in Bangalore, Select Book Shop quietly sits on an offbeat path perpendicular to the bustling Brigade Road. Established in the year 1945 by Mr. Murthy, this bookshop is literally a huge treasure chest containing a plethora of old and rare books collected by Mr. Murthy and his late father over a span of 70 years. As you step into the literary haven, you will find piles of a variety of books spreading across the rooms along with magazines and comic books. The second floor also has a lot of books of different genre teamed up with pretty artwork and old knick knacks here and there. It is interesting to know that Ruskin Bond still remains a regular customer here and often visits this establishment to meet the owner. Mr. Murthy has a lot of interesting and enthralling stories to tell if you are ever interested. A historical landmark that every book lover must visit when in Bangalore.

The National Library is located on Belvedere Road in Alipore, is the largest library in India by volume. From 1854 to 1911, the building served as the residence of the lieutenant-governors of Bengal. The building was built in the 1760s, almost immediately its owner became Warren Hastings, the first Governor-General of India. In 1780, he stated that he had sold it, and from that moment until 1854, when it became the official residence of the lieutenant-governors of Bengal, nothing was known about the fate of the mansion. It served as a residence until 1911. Since 1948, used by the library. The first major replenishment was 4,675 publications transported here from Fort William College by Governor-General Charles Metcalf. And today, this snow-white building impresses with its beauty and grandeur.

The experience of visiting Rabindra Bhavan is quite different compared to visiting any other museum. It’s due to the range of emotions that one feels inside the museum. Reverence for his persona, Pride about the great Indian Nobel Laureate , Amazement about his genius. Rabindra Bhavan was his residence when Rabindranath lived in Shantiniketan. It has been converted into a museum. There are many things about the museum that will stay with you in memory. Nobel committee’s speech at the time of the award ceremony, Rabindranath’s acceptance speech, the Nobel award citation, pictures of other great personalities who became his admirers, friends. The story about how Gitanjali was first published and how it took the world by storm. How he first heard the news of his receiving the award. Gitanjali is a compilation of 157 poems. 68 of them were songs. He was a rare person whose poetry had a music in it.. The museum shows many pictures and some of the memorabilia. It is a sheer joy and an exciting experience to have visited the museum. It should be #1 place to visit while in Shantiniketan..
