Covering more than 74,000 square feet in northwestern India, this is the country’s only desert.
No trip to Rajasthan is complete without a Desert Safari in the Thar Desert. You can choose to take the camel or a jeep. Although, a camel safari is always so much fun. Sunrise is the best time to witness while sitting on a camel. It is an amazing experience!! So much fun.

I chose a full Moon day in February. A bus from the Tent City and a camel cart drove us into the vast expanse of the Desert. I walked toward the horizon and it receded from me as I approached, leaving only the white crust of salt all around me. The sight put me into a trance. Never before had I encountered with such an otherworldly sight. The Sun set on the white desert. A strange feeling of smallness crept into my heart before the enormity of the wilderness of The Nature. I got back to the Tent and again, around 10 pm, I was driven into the place with the Full Moon overhead. And Lo and Behold! It is where the fairies land to whisper their mysteries into the ear. I was really hypnotized by the beauty of the Great Desert. The chill of February night didn't touch me.

Mahabar sand dunes is not in large space but good to explore both in sunset and sunrise time. Its 1.5 km distance from Kushal vatika jain chitamani parshvnath temple and also one hotel Sanchel fort. It is away from city traffic and very peaceful spot for spending beautiful time with families and friends. No activities their as it remains peaceful. Enjoyed a lot in climbing sand dunes at sunset time and you can see the beautiful city in the shadow of sun , view is quite breathtaking and adorable.. A large area covered with Sand carpet formation leaves you unforgettable memories here. In the morning time you can visit from the top by car and get another view of sand dunes .

Sam Sand Dunes are situated at a distance of approximately 42 km from the city of Jaisalmer. Located in the midst of the Thar Desert, these sand dunes are amongst the most famous ones in Rajasthan.
I have been to Sam while staying in Jaisalmer, my trip was organized by Forts & Palaces (they are based in Jaipur, Rajasthan) and all was very well synchronized, I had my camel ride with Rocky (camel) and Saleem (Driver), it was one of the most moving part of the trip, Saleem shared his dreams with me.
