Trekking Day Trip to the Berber Village of Imlil & Toubkal National Park You will be picked up from your hotel in Marrakech at 9 o’clock in the morning. From here it is a 1.5 hour drive to Imlil (1740 meters). In Imlil you start a walk with the guide to Aremd village (1900 meters). On the way you will be able to see traditional Berber villages and see the highest peak in the North of Africa, Jbel Toubkal (4167 meters). In winter Toubkal will be covered with snow and it will be a beautiful sight to see in the distance. After about 1 – 1.5 hours you will go to a local guesthouse to have a wonderful lunch. From here you will have a beautiful view of the Mizane Valley. After lunch it will be a 30 minute walk back to Imlil. Transfer back to Marrakech by the same route as you came to Imlil.

My experience with Toubkal Guide strongly demonstrates that it is the premier guide service for Toubkal trekking. Due to Covid, I had to reschedule my trip several times. Throughout this process Jamal patiently and kindly responded to numerous e-mails and changes in plans. My trip with Toubkal Guide went without a hitch. Jamal himself met me at the train station in Marrakech, and transported me to Imlil Lodge. The lodge met all expectations. Beautifully decorated in the Berber style, it was a treat just to experience the lodge. Food was excellent and plentiful. My guide on the trek was Ibrahim. I could not have asked for a better guide. Ibrahim did everything in his power to make my trip a safe and successful experience. If you are going to trek with Toubkal Guide soon, ask for Ibrahim. Jamal, too, assisted so kindly in all aspects of my stay. He is an outgoing person, with a warm personality. Jamal and his staff are Berber. What better way to truly experience this fascinating culture than through Berber people themselves. Having been vaccinated, and armed with a negative PCR test for Covid, I had no problems whatsoever, entering Morocco. Jamal can also refer you to an approved testing site within a short walk of the Medina for your return test. The test cost approximately $60 US, and was ready the same day it was administered. Now is a wonderful time for a visit. The trail is not crowded, the weather is warming, and the Moroccan people are so welcoming. What a memory!

We received a transfer from Marrakech and back, an overnight stay in the village of Imlil, delicious food, an overnight stay in refuge, attentive and kind guide Hussein, man with mule, the necessary equipment. By the way, the tajine at the Imlil hotel was the tastiest we have tasted in Morocco. Thanks to the chef. Thanks to the guide Hussein, we, having no trekking experience, were able to climb Toubkal and are very happy to make our dream come true. I recommend these guys to everyone. An amazing trip in the Atlas mountains. The experience in the mountain is far better than the Agafay one IMO. I was hiking a bit (1h) with a guide living in this village, he was speaking french, english, arab and amazigh, so it was easy to share. He could explain me the whole berber lifestyle, how they cultivate fruits, and a lot of information about the area, the mountains, etc. The mountains with snow are gorgeous. Karim, the driver, was also very nice, he explained me a lot of things about many villages we have seen during the journey. He was very knowledgable, he even suggested me some other good trips around Marrakech, so I definitely thank him for this amazing adventure. What I like the most is that you enter a real new culture, it's not a fake folklore like we can see sometimes, it's true barbar life. I had the luxury to be able to eat at Karim's cousin home inside the village, it was a really good chicken and vegetables tajine, the best one I had in Marrakech. I also had a really good tea, some banana and oranges.

Trekking up to the Tizi n’ Tamatert col & descend into the stunning Imane valley.During this day trek you will walk by the village of Tinerhourhine and around to the village of Aguersioual, follow river courses, cross seguias (traditional irrigation canals) and rivulets, past terraces and through walnut groves. Picnic on the road. The day involves approx. 5 to 6 hours of walking.

The more one can shed their apprehensions and expectations the more you will be enlightened. Morocco is not like any other destinations ;it offers Africa and Europe blended together. But it is important to travel beyond the main cities like Marrakech , Rabat , Casablanca as the real faces of this beautiful country are hidden in the south of the Atlas Mountain . The Berber region is the heart of Morocco. the oasis , the Sahara , the fortified Casbahs like Telouet , the Andalusian esthetique influence on ceramics ornamenting Mosques and castles that any traveller can discover in the south . Never hesitate to push past the appearances of what is in front of you ; be adventurous and bring back the unique that nobody else has . Oh ! also please do not forget to feed our friends the cats !
