Years ago I was in San Francisco and visited a bookstore that had an in house snack bar and quiet area. Within a few months the Book Revue opened and offered a similar experience and has been improving ever since. From famous authors and personages, signing books and chatting with the patrons to a tasty upscale snack bar with many spots throughout the store to quietly read and you have a winner. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable and they sell the newest of books in all categories and many used hard to find books....sitting side by side on the shelves for ease of comparison. The store sits in the center of a real life small town with a cosmopolitan selection of restaurants and gathering places surrounding it. A great stop for ten minutes or three hours.

Visitors are able to tour this facility specializing in advanced life sciences research.
Went on a tour of the campus led by one of the graduate students. Learned so much about a place I didn’t know existed. And the location is beautiful. To get there I took the LIRR from Penn to Cold Spring Harbor and then an Uber.

Love this for a weekend walk or hike. Plenty of parking. We visit once a week if we can since we have the Empire pass. You can find a map online on the NY State Park website.

Discover the history of whaling, the importance of whale conservation, and Long Island maritime history at The Whaling Museum. See an authentic 19th Century whaleboat, learn how scrimshaw was made, and touch real whale bones. Enjoy special programs, craft workshops, lectures, and films for all ages.
My kids and I were so pleasantly surprised by this museum. Really just 4 rooms, but it's well organized and lots to see. I have a 5 and 6 year old and they loved it. Asked if we could come back another time as we were leaving. Many of the exhibits are interactive and encourage hands-on learning. One of the rooms was set up with 5 different tables, each with a simple craft, all included in the admission. At any given time when we were there, only one or 2 other families were with us in the building. (was a grey Sunday in April). My kids were really engaged with the scavenger hunt available at the front desk. Only downside is, from what I can tell, there is no parking lot. We parked a couple of blocks away in the main part of town. There is a sidewalk, so easy enough. But for some, that may be more of a challenge, particularly in bad weather.

My kids enjoyed feeding the fish and watching them jump on top of another for the food. We love the tiny aquarium and live exhibit with stream exhibit, baby turtles, snapping turtle, frogs and species local to Long Island. Very doable when you are with little ones. We got to eat out at the bench area on a nice sunny day. We missed out reserving for the fishing experience as it booked out but will definitely go back and do that!

We stayed at the Captain's Cottage in the back of Kerber's Farm for my husband's birthday in April. It is next to a beautiful, charming chicken coop and yet very clean and private and cozy. I ordered a cherry pie for the celebration from the farm stand and it was absolutely delicious! The stand actually has everything you could want including water, fresh eggs, kitchen ware etc., etc. Every morning we ordered great espresso drinks from there. Kerber's free-roaming ducks are lovely and very tolerant of my most active dog. Note dogs must be kept on leash! I know we hope to return again soon...
