Staircase, located at the southeastern corner of the Olympic National Park, does not attract the same crowds as Hurricane Ridge and Hoh Rainforest, and that is a good thing for us. It’s only a bit over an hour from Olympia, the Capitol of Washington. The drive to get there is scenic, particularly around Lake Cushman. Staircase rapids has this deep green color that seems surreal. On an early Fall afternoon, there are so few people it feels like you have the place all to yourself.

We were fortunate enough to experience a private tasting one evening at Hardware Distillery. Chuck walked us through their distillery, explaining the process for each of the products they create. We were then seated, Chuck and his son Cody provided samples and background for everything they shared with us. They shared some great stories ranging from a couple television appearances (local and national) as well as some adventures right there on the canal. As our evening wrapped up, we purchased everything that we enjoyed along with a few additional bottles for good measure. We are excited to see the Morris family’s next adventure as Cody will be opening Potlatch Brewing just a few doors down from Hardware Distillery. Can’t wait to see what else Cody come up with. These guys are great, not only as business owners but as a neighbor. While we were lucky enough to score one of their ultra rare private tastings, we will certainly be back to catch up with our new friends, some spirits as well as wares from their store.

Really good wine! We were surprised that such a small winery was so good. Also, a great tasting experience. Not only is it in an amazing area with beautiful views, there's some good food nearby. The lady working was very nice, she took the time to talk and explain things to us. We are going back again this year for more. Try the Malbec!

This is a small winery that actually makes wine! Some of the grapes come from Grapeview to make Island Bell Ask to take a tour of the production facility I have volunteered to harvest and crush grapes in the past - you could as well Support small buisness
