We live about 1.5 hours from Hondo but every fall we make a trek to the South Texas Maize around Halloween. The Maize was great this year with all of the rain we have had, the corn was dense and tall, we only did one side (there are two) but had a blast as usual. There are plenty of activities to do, feed the goats, the big hill slide, the two bouncy mounds, horse rides, pig races, hay rides, climb on the hay bales and more. They have had fireworks on weekend nights in the past but had to pass this year to cost increase apparently. There is plenty of food and drinks for purchase and don't forget to stop off in the pumpkin patch, we got some good carving ones for home. My boys, 7, 9 and 11 all love spending a day at the Maize and has become a family tradition over the past few years.

This place is quite a gem of history. A lot of donated artifacts from different families from the town. This is the original railroad depot and it still has a lot of original pieces such as the freight scale and telephone. Original bank registers and telephone registers. Sharon was super friendly and knew a lot about the history. She gave us a personal tour since we were the only ones in the museum. I love learning about small town history.
