Hokkaido (北海道, Hokkaidō, literally "Northern Sea Circuit") (Japanese: [hokkaꜜidoː] ( listen)), formerly known as Ezo, Yezo, Yeso, or Yesso, is the second largest island of Japan, and the largest and northernmost prefecture. The Tsugaru Strait separates Hokkaido from Honshu. The two islands are connected by the undersea railway Seikan Tunnel. The largest city on Hokkaido is its capital, Sapporo, which is also its only ordinance-designated city. About 43 km north of Hokkaido lies Sakhalin Island, Russia, whereas to its east and north-east are the disputed Kuril Islands.

The Sapporo Concert Hall, known as Kitara, has a lovely situation in Nakajima Park, close to the Susukino entertainment area. The concert hall is serviced by two subway stations. Kitara is a modern facility, but the music program tends to favor a classical repertoire. Kitara has a large hall and small hall. Tickets can be bought online, or at the concert hall box office. There's also a restaurant for lighter style meals. Kitara is certainly a great resource for the music-lovers of Sapporo. Kitara is built in white marble, it's beautifully constructed, but a trifle cold in aspect.
