What to do and see in Hobart, Tasmania: The Best Food Tours

October 11, 2021 Enriqueta Cusson

Perched on Tasmania’s southeastern coast, the lively city of Hobart is a unique mash-up of the 19th and 21st centuries. The waterfront cafes, restaurants and studios of the largest city in Tasmania are housed in centuries-old converted warehouses that overlook a harbor bustling with yachts and fishing boats. An active arts scene, vibrant nightlife and leisurely daytime pace add to the city’s charm.

An 8am start was the only negative of the day. I mean that. I had a great time. Alex knows his stuff, his people and Tasmania too! Not only did we avoid an accident, but every venue we visited we arrived before the rush or immediately after it finished, meaning we finished the trip pretty much bang on time. The food? To die for. The Devonshire tea was awesome, the seafood platter was HUGE but the highlight was, without doubt, the scallop pie. I’ve never had a better pie, let alone a scallop one. The wine, oh my gods the wine. As a red wine lover I thought I’d be a bit out of luck, but there was PLENTY of wines for even a savage like me. So, for your money you get history, personal anecdotes, great food and wine and a lovely day out. Just book the tour, you will not regret it.

Rick was our very competent driver and guide for the whole 10 hour day trip from Hobart to Bruny Island. Rick is a local actually living on Bruny so he has all the insider knowledge which was a great asset! The tour was a great combination of local food specialties, great scenery, natural attractions and exercise for the participants - some walking and some climbing (about 360 steps at the Neck Lookout and another 72 steps inside the Lighthouse not to forget to mention the climb up to the lighthouse). Thankyou Rick for an excellent day!

My mum and I throughly enjoyed this six day tour. Robert is a knowledgeable and kind tour guide who has many years experience. He has put together a great itinerary which manages to include some of the local gems that the larger companies seem to miss such as the Wall. So much to see and do on this trip - accomodation in major towns is good and the best that smaller towns offer. All the supplied meals were generous and tasty. Highly recommend this tour - Thank you Robert and Pam.
