Her Story

If you enjoyed Louisa's Walk you will equally love Her Story! Also told in Strolling Theatre, Her Story tells the tale of another convict woman - Mary James. Mary was sent to the Female Factory in 1833 for stealing a square of cloth. You will walk through those same gates to meet Mary and hear Her Story. Be prepared to laugh and cry as the harsh conditions endured by convict women unfold. BUT you will get to dob in the brutal overseer and get your own back!!! Visit the Cascades Female Factory which is the most important site for convict women in Australia. Let expert actors bring this site to life. You will leave with an emotional connection to Mary James but also a good understanding of daily life in the notorious Cascades Female Factory. Meet Mary and hear Her Story.

Theatre Royal

The Theatre Royal opened in 1837, with major additions in 1850 and 1890, and remains a living centre for the performing arts. It presents live theatre, contemporary music, dance and entertainment. Dubbed by Noel Coward "a dream of a theatre", the Theatre Royal is Australia's oldest working theatre and one of its most beautiful treasures.

We really enjoyed our tour of the Theatre Royal. The development is a most interesting blend of new and old. Hobart is so lucky to have kept the old theatre and its history intact. Our tour guide Kathy was enthusiastic and informative....she took us to all the nooks and crannies that, as a theatre goer, you would normally never get to see...she was also generous with her time and didn't rush.
