What to do and see in Himachal Pradesh, India: The Best Hiking Trails

October 10, 2021 Kelli Reichel

Himachal Pradesh ([ɦɪmaːtʃəl prəd̪eːʃ] ( listen); literally "snow-laden province") is a state of India located in North India. Situated in the Western Himalayas, it is bordered by states of Jammu and Kashmir on the north, Punjab on the west, Haryana on the southwest, Uttarakhand on the southeast, and the Tibet Autonomous Region on the east. At its southernmost point, it also touches the state of Uttar Pradesh. The state's name was coined from the Sanskrit—Him means 'snow' and achal means 'land' or 'abode'—by acharya Diwakar Datt Sharma, one of the state's eminent Sanskrit scholars.

Minkiani Pass

Minkiani Pass Trek is among the very less explored treks in Himachal Pradesh. The pass lies 7 kms from Kareri lake and is a perfect blend of scenery and adventure in Dhauladhar mountain range. Once can witness various species of Himalayan birds and wild animals, and if you are lucky enough you can get a glimpse of Himalayan fox, snow leopard and many others. Minkiani Pass lies at an height of 4,343 meters same as Indrahar pass. The route to Minkiani Pass is steep and needs good fitness level. We trekked with Travel Monk. Everything was nicely arranged. Visit- thetravelmonk.com , Cont-8146654329. Camp, Matts & Sleeping bag were sanitized right before us, which you cannot see done by any other camp provider. They did everything to minimize the risk as possible. Proper sanitary-ware were provided. In such a times of Covid proper sanitization is most important. Western Bio-toilet with camp was such a relief, the first of kind i saw in my whole trekking experience. Toilet facility other than that was not anywhere. Highly recommended for Women trekkers.

I went to Ganji Pahari. The brilliant colours reflecting from the landscape surrounding the hill is a mesmerising site at any time of the day, but the misty sunsets and sunrises are the best features to see from Ganji Pahari. The picturesque site is worth capturing in photographs too. It is great place to go.
