It may not be the most ornate of Texas Courthouse, but it is a beautiful structure. A fire some years back severely damaged the old building. The proud citizens of Hill County did not take the easy path of tearing down the old structure and replacing with a modern building like so many counties. Instead, they worked together to raise the money and restored their Courthouse to its original beauty.

This is a great Military History Museum! It's a true history museum where you read the history on wall plaques and see artifacts displayed in cases. They cover the Civil War, WWI & WWII, Vietnam, etc. A small mention of the War of 1812. A small mention of the current wars in the Middle East.
The recipients of the Medal of Honor who were born in Texas are highlighted. It was very interesting! Actually seeing the Medal of Honor was also a huge highlight.
We spent two hours reading all the plaques. And yes, we did learn some new things!
They have a research library in the back. They have numerous military history books up front for purchase. Some are geared towards small children, others are geared towards older children, still others are geared towards adults. A military history buffs delight!
The gift shop has some Texas items for purchase. There are also some unique gifts, such as a wooden Civil War chess board with confederate/union pieces.
This was a great military history museum and is well worth the stop if you are passing through Hillsboro. Easy access from I-20. Located behind the outlet stores on Hillsboro's regional college campus. The campus has signs on all their buildings, so it is easy to locate the Texas Heritage Museum. Highly recommended for those intereted in military history.

Visited Roadside Museum this weekend. You need to call if you want to visit. Fun memorabilia. He also has some beautiful cars. They ask for a donation of $15 per couple. Really enjoyed it and the hospitality of the tour. Nice stop if in North Texas...

This antique mall is filled with antique and vintage treasures. I purchased some lovely vintage hankies that were only $2.00 each!

There was 3 kind women that were very informative. The sheriff and his family slept upstairs, kitchen and cells were down stairs. Very large old house, each room was a different display- veteran room, Willie Nelson room, Indian room, and you could go in the jail cell. It is rumored that Elvis Presley stayed a night in jail while he was stationed at Ft Polk base. There is a magazine article there from 1997.
It is free for kids, it is suggested $2.00 for adults , or donations. We enjoyed it, even with 3 children.
