For decades, the Henry River Mill Village has sat dormant. On the surface, the once vibrant village appears abandoned, lost, and well beyond repair. Since being built in 1905, there has been a lot of history made in the village, including it's most recent appearance as District 12 in the Hunger Games movies. Join us for one of our many tours available for all ages and all interests.
There is no other place I have ever been as unique as Henry River Mill Village. The site of Katniss Everdeen's house from Hunger Games and rich 120+ year old history. I went thinking that the history would be neat and the fandom was amazing. I left thinking the fandom is neat and the history being the most amazing part. Our family even met one of the individuals who used to call the village home as a kid. While I still like the rustic look of the houses, I value more that the renovations are restoring the outside of the houses closer to what they would have looked like when the original families lived there. I think it's important that that past is respected since it was home to many who live locally in the area. It's like the most amazing convergence of history, present, and future! My wife, kiddos, and I were able to stay in the 1st house restored by the owners. Calvin informed me that our kids were the first kids who have stayed in the upstairs beds that his wife designed. Take a look in the next time you're near hickory North Carolina, highly suggest you book this on your way towards Asheville or Raleigh depending on which way you're headed.

Few things better than baseball on a summer evening. LP Frans Stadium is a fine minor league park; there's not a bad seat there. Extra netting to protect fans is a great addition. Many nights there are long lines at the concessions, especially when only one (typically on the 3rd base side) is open.

An eclectic display of wonderful modern art pieces organized and displayed with care and flare. Many sections are set with music that enhance the display. So many modern art museums only have paintings - this museum has a variety of mediums - glass, pottery, murals, sculptures, etc. Good modern art speaks to current culture and issues - this gem has a wide variety. The space is also a work of art - it is open and bright, with different floors and areas to meander.

We stopped while traveling home from the mountains. They had wonderful local produce, honey, and goat cheese. We found parking for our truck and trailer a few blocks away in an empty parking lot.

The view from the top makes this 2.5 mile loop worth it. I was able to do two loops on a trail run. There are some steep, rugged portions of ascent and descent, but I really enjoyed the trek! A short distance from both I-40 and Hwy 321, for easy access.

Bike paths, walking trails, multiple play areas and picnic shelters, a creek, fields for group play, frisbee golf, and a nature trail with ducks/fish to feed. You might want to bring your own animal friendly food because feeding people food is discouraged, but their food is very pricey. Also be aware that the Park sometimes closes due to limited parking during peak times/seasons.
