The Smith River Sports Complex is a dynamic, multi-purpose athletic and recreation facility. It started with soccer, but it is much more than soccer! Seven field sports are now represented at the Complex: Soccer, Field Hockey, Lacrosse, Ultimate Frisbee, Football, Flag Football and T-Ball! The fields can be rented for tournaments, league games, clinics, camps, practices, band competitions, or group outings. There are also two Picnic Shelter Pavilions and a Meeting Room that can be rented for church, school or company events. We have paved and unpaved walking trails around the entire Complex. Recently - I attended my first event at Piedmont Arts. Now I am wondering why I have never patronized this establishment sooner!! The beautiful decor will surprise you when entering the building. Artwork lines the walls, and I will admit I was mesmerized by the creativity. Some of the paintings really blew me away. Refreshments and beverages are waiting prior to attending your event. The event I patronized was upstairs, and it was a comfortable setting. There really isn't a 'bad' seat in the house. did I forget to mention the Art Garden next door? Piedmont Arts is an exceptional venue that deserves the full attention of art lovers and patrons of the arts!! Simply spectacular!!

We love NASCAR and we had the opportunity to stop by this fantastic speedway. It has great views and the cars go super fast. VROOOOM is the word of the day. I highly recommend any race track in America and if you are nearby, check out Martinsville.

Virginia Museum of Natural History

Scale models of dinosaurs and actual tracks of these great beasts of the past are featured through innovative exhibits, lectures and educational activities.

Reviewed By ishnick - Martinsville, United States

We recently attended Dino Festival at VMNH with our 4 year old grandson and he absolutely loved it. Of course, it was fun for the older folks also. It's always an enjoyable experience (visiting the museum), and special events make it even more so. I would recommend visiting especially if you have little dino-lovers or mini-scientists in your family.

Philpott Lake

Reviewed By BlueridgeCharlie - Dugspur, United States

The lake and dam were a motorcycle ride destination. The Philpott Lake overlook provides a great view of the lake. Spectacular view of the coves and undeveloped shoreline. Rare treat to see condo-free lake shore. Good seating to relax and enjoy. As we relaxed my first time here friends took and sent pictures to friends. A small visitor center provides more information about the Corps of Engineers operation. The lake has several marinas, picnic area and boat launch facilities. Before departing we rode to the bottom of the dam for a look at the height of the dam. The area was cooler than the top due to the release of cold water to the Smith River. An excellent trout stream Overall the view is worth a trip. Other outdoor activities are available.

Mountain Valley Brewing

Reviewed By SwimSwamSwum - Ridgeway, United States

This is my favorite place in Henry County. I love the beer, the pavilion, and the live music whenever I happen to be there while they have someone playing. They keep growing and now have a closed in pavilion/barn with an open air back deck. Just lovely place to be. Oh, and they can also sell their beer in howlers, yowlers, growlers, and even canned!

Hamlet Vineyards offers one of the best Sunday Brunches around. This has everything: charm in a barn, its own fine vintage wines, and some scrumptious food. The Sunday special (Mexican corn chowder with a side of quesadilla) was flavorfull, rich and filling. And those chocolates served as a "light" dessert... Wow! Be advised it opens at 1 and fills up fast.
