Le Cachot

In this interesting and eclectic shop tucked away in a fascinating historical French town, the owner was fixing up the basement of his store over a period of several years. He made some fascinating discoveries and he tells you the story during the tour. He speaks simply and slowly and if you have a basic knowledge of French you can follow him - if not there are almost always bilingual tourists with you who translate as he speaks. If you want an unusual and long to be remembered experience, stop by Le Cachot!

Quite an amazing place to see as so imposing The visit took 1 1/2 hours and we went as happened to be camping very close by. I thought it was good that the main audio pieces were available to play in several different languages. The one inside the main bunker upset my 11 years old as the treatment of concentration camp victims is never easy to describe. But both children (7 and 11) really enjoyed the visit as did I.

Marvelous building dominating the main square of the old city. Amazing architecture and details, both on exterior and in the courtyard.

I walked around the ruins briefly whilst in Soissons on business. It was 9am on a chilly January morning, and I was the only tourist on the site but the informative plaques were helpful. I would return in season in order to visit the full site.

Very interesting experience of utopia. Well organized. I could allow only 2 hours. If you get into it, it is worth more. Cafeteria looks rather basic, but anyway everybody shows warm welcome.
