Located along the border of France and Spain, this scenic and mountainous landscape offers a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, mountain climbing and viewing wildlife.
Wonderful local trsins and buses got us to Cauteret from Tarbes we enjoyed three nights exploring walking around the area the only problem disappointment - and it was a real let down - was that Cauterets Spa insisted my husband wore their brand of trunks so we were unable to enter as we refused to pay or new ones from them when he had normal suitable trunks that just didn't meet their specifications -God knows why- no explanation was given

Gorgeous part of the world with stunning view and beautiful lakes - in some of the lakes you can see trout cruising around feeding on the surface - hiking is quite vertical but worth the effort- we had a 1000 foot gain in elevation on our hike- if you have mobility issues this might not be for you - the road up there is barely 1 lane in spots with lots of switchbacks but the views make it worth while - just go slow and let the locals and the aggressive drivers pass you.

The basilique was blessed on August 15, 1871 and consecrated in July 1876. The stained glass in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception retrace the history of the Virgin Mary until the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception by Pope Pius IX in 1854 and the Apparitions of Lourdes in 1858. This same Pie IX is represented on a medallion above the entrance of the Crypt. Surely worthwhile to visit

This pass is spectacular for the scary drive as well as the amazing views. No barriers in many places!!! Those cyclists have a lots of courage! We visited in mid-May and it still had remains of snow on the slopes. Plenty of cyclists, so be especially careful for them. It was freezing at the top!

Le plus beau lac des Pyrénées, de France et du Monde évidemment ! En plein coeur du Parc national des Pyrénées.
Very beautiful place, a nice walk and amazing photos for sure. Small restaurant there. Don’t miss this is you are near.

Through walking the cute quiet town of montemarte, which has tons of quirky art and souvenir shops, you reach the beautiful church and climb up to the dome. Lots of stairs so be prepared but worth it.

Cirque de Gavarnie is a wonderful natural amphitheater located near in the homonymous town, in French Pyrenees. In fact, you can do a great walk from the town to the amphitheater. In fact, we did this excursion with all family (included my 4 years daughter and she enjoyed a lot). In the amphitheater there is a high and amazing waterfall and the views from here are very nice. The hiking is about 3 hours go and return. During almost all the excursion, it is possible to see the waterfall and almost at the end there is a hotel/restaurant, where you can relax and eat or drink something. In the last part of the trekking, you can arrive to the buttom part of the waterfall. Amazing! Top in Pyrenees! (See also Office de Tourisme de Gavarnie and Hotel du Cirque Cafe & Restaurant)
