Known as "Hub City," Hattiesburg is conveniently located at the intersection of six major US highways. More than just a stopover spot, Hattiesburg offers visitors a plethora of attractions and activities. The historic districts of Hattiesburg are some of the most intact neighborhoods in Mississippi. The Mississippi Armed Forces Museum is proud to serve as the military history museum for the state of Mississippi. The museum aims to educate the public about Mississippi’s role in military history, while honoring the service of both Mississippi veterans and those who have trained in Mississippi during times of war. Visit us today, located approximately 10 miles south of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center.
I had no idea this museum existed but what a gem. Even though it was free, clearly there was plenty of money spent in the creation and curation of the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum. The presentation is top rated and compares favorably to famous institutions such the National WWII Museum in New Orleans. The fact that the museum is located on Camp Shelby, the training location of the highly decorated Japanese American 442nd Infantry Regiment, was a bonus. Oh, German POWs were kept on Camp Shelby during WWII as well. So much history!

The Mahogany Bar has turned into the best BREW PUB in the South! Bar None! Serving cuisine from Hattiesburg's oldest, (and only) Gourmet Restaurant, and a selection of over 150 beers. It is THE PLACE to spend the hours from 5 - 7 pm. Happy hour makes the beers very affordable, and all appetizers from the Crescent City Grill are 1/2 price. These are GOURMET SELECTIONS - think of them as Small Plates instead of appetizers. My wife and I are Brew Pub aficionados, due to the unique menus and really good beer. We have eaten in many, many of them all across the country. We tried their Fried Green Tomatoes. This is a small plate with 3 tomato slices arranged around a shrimp and mushroom sauce in a wine reduction. It is to DIE FOR! We also had their shrimp and crab meat stuffed mushrooms. Again ... the best we've ever had. Then, I spied a roast beef and cheddar over french fries, with some deep fried jalapeno slices on top. After eating most of the 3 appetizers, a couple of excellent local beers, we could barely get out of our chairs. Do your self a favor, and give this a shot. It is the finest food in the Pinebelt. Period.

The Lucky Rabbit is open only four days a month: the first Thursday through Sunday of the month. Shop Vintage, Antique, Upcycled, Nostalgic, Retro and Unique.
Our inaugural visit was on Black Friday, during the Christmas Vacation celebration. We were most impressed with the kindness of the staff members. Being a busy shopping day, we expected crowds and craziness, but everyone behaved pretty well, and the staff was overwhelmingly nice and helpful. I mean, even the cashier (who never gets a minute to breathe) was genuinely nice and very friendly. Selection and options for shoppers was widely varied for a flea market/antique consignment shop. Very clean, very well staffed, no issues with parking. This was a great place for families, although probably better for those with older kids. I can't NOT mention the room that was a replica from scenes of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. They encouraged visitors to take photos, had staff in costume as well, and even plenty of movie-specific props (including the Family Truckster/Ford LTD Wagon outside that you could sit in and take more photos). Food truck parked out front, plenty of available restrooms, and something for everyone. Be sure to note the days they are open each month, because it's usually only for days per month.

Popped in with the bf on a road trip because we had heard Southern Prohibition was THE brewery in Mississippi to try. We did a flight to sample 4 beers and the bartender was wonderful at helping us pick a good set. The Purple Fluff was such an interesting beer that we got some to go! The pizza was also delicious, fresh, and fire roasted. All in all, a great stop!
