We are facility to enjoy Japanese culture at old zen temple in Miyajima, where you'll also find a beautiful Japanese garden that changes its colors seasonally. There's no charge for viewing the garden so feel free to walk through the gate. Come and enjoy with us!

Great little ferry and of course “free” with Japan Rail Pass which is recommended for anyone travelling to Japan.

I found the Miyajima Aquarium to be a great way to spend a couple of hours. It is a little ways from the ferry terminal but there are signs guided you to its location. Like most aquariums, it is on the pricier side, but I understand why, the upkeep for aquariums is not cheap. This aquarium is nicely set up and has a lot of local species. I really liked the clam displays and the giant salamander. They have a massive sea lion here, I only saw him from below so I hope he has a lot more room outside. The aquarium is great for small kids and families as well as adults like me. They have one large tank with sharks, rays, and some other larger fish species. Overall, I recommend coming to the Miyajima Aquarium at least once especially if you live in the area, I really enjoyed it!

Under the roof of the shrine there is just one big floor space that you can walk through to view all the painting on the rafters. There was a collection of giant rice paddles as well. It's open all the way around, so you can get great views of Itsukushima Shrine, the 5-story pagoda, and the sea. If you walk toward the bathrooms you can actually see the structure under the shrine, giant wooden beams resting on large rocks.

Fantastic little street with plenty of little shops and restaurants. Bear in mind you'll definitely leave some money in that little street, try Okonomiyaki in any of the restaurant as well as oysters in any small stand.
