What to do and see in Harrogate, England: The Best Golf Courses

March 18, 2022 Christa Meece

Harrogate is also known as "The English Spa." For centuries, visitors have flocked to the mineral hot springs. Today, those springs still soothe the body while the placid RHS Harlow Carr Gardens and Yorkshire Dales national park stimulate the soul. Tea rooms, architecture, and art galleries are the main pastimes in this pleasant town.  With four rail stations for easy transport, travelers can board trains running between Harrogate and York, Leeds, Knaresborough, and London.

Oakdale Golf Club

I played this course today and what a wonderful experience. I chose to play here because its designer also designed some of the best golf courses in the world. Initially I thought I'd booked a tee time to play alone, so I was surprised to have a member introduce himself and say I'd inadvertently booked to play with him. A bit strange but it was a stroke of luck as he was great company and a help with advice on the course. The course itself is a gem. The holes are laid out very cleverly with each providing subtle challenges of risk and reward, careful positioning and very clever bunkering. The 9th and 18th holes are 2 of the best holes I've ever played. The course is not far from the centre of Harrogate although you would never know. The scenery and views of quite substantial houses and the churches of Harrogate occasionally emerging from the surrounding leafy suburb add to the appeal. A GREAT GOLF COURSE Thank you
