The charming Vietnamese capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarter, monuments and colonial architecture, while making room for modern developments alongside. Hanoi may have shrugged off several former names, including Thang Long, or "ascending dragon," but it hasn't forgotten its past, as sites such as Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and Hoa Lo Prison attest. Lakes, parks, shady boulevards and more than 600 temples and pagodas add to the appeal of this city, which is easily explored by taxi.

I have been living and working in Southern Vietnam for 10 years and I love this country very much. On our first time to visit the North, we decided to travel to Ha Giang, Ban Gioc Waterfall, and Ba Be Lake. We chose Conical Travel according to one of our friends who did the trip with them. The six-day trip amazed and impressed us with the beauty of the natural landscape in the moutainous areas. Each of the destinations we visited has its own mesmerizing features and we had chance to interact with the local people. Our kids had great lessons about how the people in these regions survive without the modernization. In short, the trip was very very very excellent. We love Vietnam so much, from the bottom of our hearts! Andrew, Lorna & kids

The guides and drivers at Localmates are the best! My friend and I enjoyed a full day of exploring in and around Hanoi. I'm glad we booked with this tour because we were able to experience places that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. My favorite was the silk village. The craftsmanship in Vietnamese culture is fascinating and beautiful. Getting a first hand look at silk making, rattan weaving and knife making was very special. The train street and cave was also really cool. And of course the food and goodies we had were delicious! Thank you Localmates for the informative, interesting and safe tour, as well as treating us like friends :)

We arranged a 9 days tour for the four of us with Motorcyclist Tours to see the North East Ha Giang, Ban Gioc waterfalls and then Ha Long Bay. Our guide was extremely friendly and accommodating. Note that even though it says the trip is to the North East to see the waterfalls, it includes a lot more. We rode through the villages on a Enduro, interacted with some of the locals, drank sugar cane juice, seen how rice was processed, watched a lady make rice noodles and then sampled her noodle dish. We rode our enduro from small village to the next small village, to the next – so lovely to see the culture and beautiful countryside which you cannot appreciate unless you venture outside of Cao Bang. We also went to an off the beat track to view grotto which was beautiful. At the end of the trip we drove to Ha Long Bay, spent 3 days 2 nights on a luxury cruise. Really enjoy kayaking, swimming biking and hiking in Cat Ba island. After that, we drove back Hanoi to visit the southern on ourselves. We would highly recommend this route and this company. Taking this tour is a fun way to experience the sights, smells and tastes of Hanoi. And definitely, the best way to see and learn about the real Hanoi not just the run-off-the-mill tourist sites. We would journey you to so many parts of Hanoi that you would not otherwise see and even imagine about, from the maze of zigzagging backstreets, hectic traffic, old French boulevards to the off-roads along the Red river as well as t asting the most delicious dishes of the delicious dishes that Hanoi offers you. Also, we pass by most of the famous city’s landmarks.

My girlfriend and I had a great tour with Tommy last week when we visited Hanoi. Tommy was such a friendly, professional and knowledgeable tour guide. Despite the cold weather, it was super awesome being able to drive around the streets of Hanoi in an original soviet era Jeep and get to experience the culture, historical sites and food of Hanoi. I would definitely recommend booking a tour with Hanoi Backstreet Tours. P. S. The egg coffee you get to try is absolutely delicious!!!

Hanoi is much bigger than just the Old Quarter. Even though it’s the center of the capital, rich in history and culture, the Old Quarter is still just a small part of the city. Get on a motorbike, we will take you outside and show you areas that most travelers don’t get to see. It’s a different feeling on our motorbikes, going through some lesser known spots, cultural sites while our local Hanoian tour guides explain all about the history of the thousand-year-old city. Besides, you’ll also have the chance to taste some exquisite street food too!
